I never thought I'd be typing these words but I have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a dragster operation that I have long coveted to pair with my funny car and while I could use the cash, I am flat out of room...so the little roadster must go. Drag cars are really the direction my life is headed but still...cutting this one from the stable will have some lasting regret...but here goes: I purchased this car from Don's estate in March of '14, right after he passed away. Don rented a shop from my dad and I had really only seen this car from underneath, it was always up on a lift and while completely finished like a show car underneath, it was still in a black sealer and little details were undone, which I have completed. I had no idea what this car was when I purchased it, since I was a muscle car guy, I knew nothing about cars of this era. I bought the car to flip it but after driving it for two days, I said that's not happening (my wife said she knew from the get-go,lol) so I sold off the fleet and this was my fun car...and loads of fun it's been. I have a stack of receipts that came with the car, Don kept every single thing and kept a running total of what he had in the car, all paperwork goes with the car. I have included all the components on the build in Don's handwriting but I will list them here as well: Body: Brookville steel '28 Ford roadster '32 Grill & shell cut 4" Custom aluminum hood (removed completely without tools in seconds) '34 Ford side panels (removed completely with 2 screws per side) Custom rear belly pan with 100 louvers Modified floor to fit pinched '32 frame Modified cowl to blend with custom fabricated aluminum Duvall-style cutdown windscreen 35% tinted '32 dash, SW gauges, ;39 Ford tail lights (upgraded to LED) Chassis: American Stamping '32 rails, boxed, C'ed & pinched with custom cross members 5" drop Magnum front axle, drilled '40 Ford Radius rods with Streamline tube (portholes) Interior: Aluminum panels, full Mercedes Benz carpeting with side door pouches Heater and 2-stage heated seats, both top and bottom Flathead piston cup holder, 45 caliber bullet door handles Leather wrapped custom seat with plywood and "glide" foam Joe's Racing aluminum steering wheel Engine: 302 Ford 5.0L original installation: '88 Thunderbird Ford Motorsports aluminum heads & cam Holley 650 carburetor Edelbrock intake manifold & black finned valve covers w/Edelbrock script Custom exhaust with Smithy's mufflers, all exhaust powdercoated Side cutouts Transmission: Ford AOD Automatic w/ overdrive Lokar shifter Rear end: 8" Ford with 3.89 Positraction Pete & Jakes ladder bars and coilovers Front brakes: '37 Lincoln with aluminum Buick drums Wheels & Tires: 4.5x16 & 6x16 Stockton Early Ford '40 Ford Standard caps & rings 5.00 R16 & 7.50 R16 Excelsior Stahl Sport Radials, 90% tread life left Paint: Custom PPG Black Toner Pinstriping by Franks Signs Notes: Custom key, new one-wire black alternator, So-Cal polished aluminum front axle components, chrome front P&J shocks, storage compartment behind folding seat, aluminum fuel tank and battery inside trunk, car comes with Don Kendall's original tool kit including the custom socket/ratchet used to remove the cut-out's. All receipts/notes/paperwork/photographs come with the car. Don started to make a top for it and almost completed the frame before he passed, that frame is included. Also, there is extra destressed leather which he used to cover the seat, I used some on the door pouches as well as the piping around the carpeting, the remainder is included. Lastly, a custom California Car cover with tire covers is included, this item was only used 3-4 times. This car has been driven all over SoCal and down Eagle Field, completely dusting the competition each time, the CD with those runs are included with the sale. This car has influenced many builds and in Don's honor, I had a limited number of decals made which grace this vehicle in 3 places, the others were quickly snapped up by Don's closest friends and are proudly displayed on their hot rods. I'm sure there are many details I have forgotten to include here but will update as I remember them and what I have done to the car. With 18,693 miles currently, this is a completely well-sorted hot rod that can be driven anywhere without fear, recently serviced and ready to cruise. Serious inquiries only Please... ***New Price*** $50K / OBO Before stripes, painted center caps & tint...and of course the DK decals: Don in the seat...perfect stance: Key detail: Don's own notes: Don's most famous build... Well guys...I have 2 very interested parties on the little Don Kendall roadster, just had her super-tuned yesterday and I put the steelies back on as well, just waiting to re-torque the lug nuts before I slap on the caps. She's still in my possession but for how long...we'll see.
TTT...Car has been listed on eBay today: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1928-Ford-...713066?hash=item1cc5542faa:g:LuoAAOSwydZcJ8XP
Well guys, the dragster and trailer should hopefully be here in about a week and I could use the space although if need be, I'll hold the roadster until the Spring for better weather and selling opportunities. That being said, I've lowered the price to sell the car...$50K/OBO and this car is yours. That is very fair money for a really nicely built and sorted-out roadster that you can drive everywhere.
Again guys...new dragster purchase is on the way, weather delayed it slightly but will be here before the end of the month. Would love to find a new home if possible...just drove her to cars & coffee Saturday and got lots of eyeball, runs like a top. At this point, I would entertain serious offers north of $45K.
Dragster/trailer arrived on Sunday and it's been whirlwind here ever since...the shop is getting crowded and the little roadster unfortunately must go...first $45K drives her home.
