Pendine is a great event its on my list of to do.What about looking at examples from Bonneville particuarly the vintage track cars that have been fitted with external removeable rollbars. I,d be considering a two bar arrangement similar to the boats above the drivers head and adding a plate across the top, to give some surface area to resist digging into the sand Johnny

Pendine isnt anything like the beach surface at the likes of TROG which appears to be a proper sandy beach? Pendine is hard packed unless it drys out to much then by all accounts its still firm but just a bit like driving on marbles, but thats an anecdotal account as I have never driven it . However it was historically used for land speed record runs back in the day .. so fair to say it is a suitable surface when the conditions are right ..

Historic pics were interesting thanks for those just shows everything has been done before at some time or other ..

That's Pete Samuelson, Pete 1's roadster. Pete builds a mean flathead, he ran an injected 325 incher for a while, you could hear him coming through the pack !

  13. I know these are much latter NASCAR convertibles.

Some good ideas for period correct cages.

  14. Quite okay. I've seen some bad examples. There was one guy at Islip, liked to mess with my brother when he was racing, There were a couple of spots on the track where the officials didn't have a clear view. These were used to do our dirty work when it was needed. So my bro stuffs the guy deep into the corner. The front of the guy's car folds up like origami. Later the officials looked at it, .050 wall tubing. The guy was trying to save a little weight...
