Over here in Oztralia, our parents took their car to a motor mechanic. It must be a remnant of the Pommy influence, but at 61y.o. I still call it a motor. When I do race reports in the HA/GR forum I change it to engine to avoid being sent to the stocks.

It bothers me slightly to call an engine a "motor"....but I understand.
What I DON'T understand (and it bothers me GREATLY) is these clowns wearing their cap backward! It may be cute for a 3 year old boy but any older and you just look plain stupid. Why wear a cap (with a bill) with the bill turned toward your neck?! Just wear a skull cap.
Maybe its a case of "white guilt"...I don't know. Everybody trying to be a home-boy maybe. Maybe we all wanna be welders?!! I like that!
I may go for a ride in my "engineboat" and cool off?!!

I prefer engine because I connected countless electric motors with 45 yrs in Power plants. And yes I pour motor oil int my engines and ride motorcycles....

A MOTOR can also be driven by hydraulic pressure, water pressure, air....and in the end it's mind over matter, I don't mind and it don't matter!

Motor, engine, who cares, as long as its traditional....

  15. Like many others I learned what powers a car is a gasoline engine, it dosen't bother me if others call it a motor.

Most of us do say motor mounts instead of engine mounts. HRP

    LOL!

  17. I have also heard the power plant being refereed to as a MILL, my grandpa worked at a cotton mill, they are just words and as time passes terminology change, as long as it's about hot rods I don't mind it at all. HRP

anything that runs on fuel is both an engine and a motor. anything electric is a motor only.

does that sound right to you? it does to me.

I'm more concerned about magazine vs clip. they are not the same, though some magazines can be loaded with a clip.

To me, if it's blown up, I say "blew the engine", if it's got a supercharger, I refer to it as "blown motor", I know it sounds strange.

I agree with the engine (gas/fuel) , motor (electric). But in 40+ years in profesional Motor sports I have never connected electricity to the "Motor" !!
