Monterey Speed and Sport is Don Orosco’s (spelling?) shop. He is the owner of this beautiful chunk of history.

Yes I believe you are correct I have not went through his site in detail but he has an array of classic vehicles and restores as well...so I guess it's the best of both worlds.

I guess as an owner he has decided to let it go.

Don Orosco owned, restored and sold the chopped and sectioned 1940 Ford Convertible owned by Ralph Jilek and built by Valley Custom. Here it is.

I seen somewhere that they expect between 4-500,000$ for it. Damn, what a perfect car.

The Bakan Coupe was here in the Northwest for some time. Here is a shot from '88, when it had an injected flathead, running at the nostalgia race in Seattle, when Jim Donovan owned it. BTW, that was my ride in the foreground. 2012-08-07 145316.jpg

It is interesting looking at the coupe that it never lost it's vintage appeal and look. Some never tired of that vintage pre 65 look the Hamb celebrates. Most left it and went with the flow of time.

Thanks for sharing that Marty...and by the way...Nice Hotrod you had...;)...glad you were there. Are you in the photo? I think you are...I'm gonna say 2nd from right behind the Dragster...

I'm 2nd from the left, the other guy is my life long (since 1958) buddy Bobby Mead, who was a partner in the car, the other was Tom Willford,

Thanks for correcting my bad guess. Marty question for you...When Jim owned the coupe back then it was somewhat in the thick of the Streetrod period. Did you feel it was a standout amongst the others in a unique way...I mean it was a Hotrod cover/featured car running a vintage class at the time I suppose. A show class vehicle doing the motions much like you fellas and your Rails they were pretty showy when you wanted them to be.

Kinda like having the Batmobile in your neighborhood in a way...

Are you surprised at its popularity?

Thanks again and great shot of back in the day...

Stogy, at the nostalgia drags back in the 80's, most of the cars had the street rod appearance, the coupe really was in contrast. I have a movie of it, shot in '86 when it had a SCOTT blower on the flathead. The photographer did a full walk around, also showing the inside. I have been meaning to send a copy to Don Orosco. A friend of mine was living in a College dorm in Portland around '64, and he used to hear it start up, at that time it had a Lincoln overhead in it, he said it sounded loud and nasty !

That's a priceless bit of historical fact @Marty Strode perhaps someday you can make thread around that video...I'd love to see it and I'm sure many others too.

So many of you had these intimate connections to what we celebrate here not only the Cars but the people...this is one of those things that just makes the Hamb such a great vehicle for sharing this huge array of information and visual...thanks Marty.

Thanks for that update...the link I posted doesn't seem to be updated but no surprise. Congrats to the new owners.

There was a beautiful 40 Merc up for grabs too...the Jack Thompson Roadster and the Stengel Custom.

Results probably won't be posted for a few days if it is like most of those auctions.

    Balkan Coupe still for sale...

    https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/...lots/r0076-1932-ford-lloyd-bakan-coupe/731104

Still for sale...These auctions are structured somewhat different than typical auctions...and that's okay...just different...the times they are a changing...

  30. Obviously didn't hit the reserve. Wonder what it was? I know the Rodriguez Merc didn't meet its reserve either and is now for sale for $150,000 through Fullerton Fabrication.
