Technical Under Dash Heaters

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by spillaneswillys, Nov 4, 2018.

  1. As a noobie here, I'm interested in what I'm looking at but have no clue about anything. Would someone see one of these in say, a 50's hotrod?

In short it’s a self contained heater for the car that bolts to the firewall under the dash.

Knobs do what heater knobs do. Doors and shutters do what vents do.

And considering that in the 50’s it was likely your only car, yeah a heater would be present most likely.

    Retson the Racer likes this.
  4. Ken, were you speaking to me? I'm in the beginning of the build, as I'm finding parts as I go. My goal is fully fendered Sport Coupe, 15's, decent drop and chop, 283, and a good rake. As far as interior, I haven't decided yet. I definitely want to run a heater, and I think it'll be easy with the sbc, but I'm not sure.

It’s got some mileage on it, but it’s in really good shape. I cleaned it up painted it polished chrome even though it’s pitted it goes with my Worn-look anyway.
12 V motor I got off of eBay a long time ago have no idea what brand it is?
It’s counter clockwise though luckily, I had another 6 V heater that was counter clockwise, so I stole the fan off of it!
I shorten the threads and the tubes and re-flared the ends.
    It’s roughly a 1930-35 Arvin mini heater. I got a Mustang/bronco 60s 70s manual control valve with a choke cable I’m gonna use,
    For throttling the heat.
