Got a call from a friend the other day who heard from another friend about some cars for sale. I guess a car guy passed on and now his hoard is being sold off. Called up the executor and heard what was there, the 36 delivery sounded good. Executor wanted to build a modern frame and drop this on it as a poo-tina rod. I won't be doing that . Not sure what route yet. Complete minus a motor, even had a new in box pines winterfront for it! We struck a deal and hauled it home .
Isn't 36 the last year for mostly wood bracing? Or was that '35? And how does the delivery compare to coupes, sedans, etc in that regard? Nice score.
I guess it was the last year, but there were some metal cars as well. The doors on this one are wood frame with metal skin. But there's a pair in the back that are metal frame and skin. The back half seems to be about as much wood as a ford of the era.
Glad you got it before it was stuck on a Dakota chassis 1/2 fubared and left for dead! I see a 261 or 302 inline 6 with multi carburation and a split exhaust Your choice of trans And a nice rear end for hwy cruising ( camaro fits nice under 49-54 Chevy cars not sure on the trucks) And drive it. That thing is just screaming shop truck/ parts hauler Looks solid as well!
KILLED. The 36 was the last year for the doors to be hung in wood, so I'm sure Mac is right (as usual). There is no wood in the doors themselves, I think. Lots of guys replace the wood with steel, then hang the doors. That's one reason there aren't many old chevs around. When the rot set in and the doors sagged, they got thrown away. My dad has a 36 pickup, had it since 1954.
Never been out of the box until last night, kinda funky opening to let air in, functions perfectly when I played with it (too dark for a pic) These are wood doors on the car, but has a pair of steel doors in it. Drivers door functions perfectly, others are jammed shut with poop and other joyous materials. Once cleaned out will see how they do. a 60 chev delivery basketcase and some oddball 80s Ferrari.
If I'm correct, those fenders with the spare wells are pretty hard to find as well- nice to see the mounting hardware. Dad was collecting parts for his '36 for years- ash tray, clock, dash parts, etc... wish I still had them- would be happy to offer them to you!
Great find, a rare car indeed. Looks to be fairly straight and complete. A steel out will work wonders. When was the last time you saw a 36 Chevy SD? 9,404 were produced by Fisher (USA), I've no idea about Canada or Australia? http://home.znet.com/c1937/Prod.htm
