Got it. I'd look for 40 style brakes or F100...locally, so you can see if the parts are ok, versus mail order on used parts.

That early Ford stuff can still be found in my area, but maybe not where you are.

That’s what I will do. F100 shouldn’t be to hard to find I would think.
    Thanks

Here’s the way it sits right now waiting to figure this problem out.
Sounds like I got lots of help and answers to my questions.
    Thanks

You will have to grind a small notch in the top of the spindle for brake hose clearance, got em on my 29 roadster out stops several disc brake hot rods Iv'e driven.

Whoops... I didn't notice your rear discs...Might be some proportional issues there..

Yea not sure those are old hurst calipers. You cant really see the rear calipers so I think they are ok for now. I just really do not want front disc.

I just asked around the F100 brakes maybe harder to find than I figured around here. If I cannot find used is there a economical complete kit you would recommend?

Yea I saw that not very economical.

  9. Oh boy, once again it takes until post 28 to get the real truth of what we are dealing with. After all the guessing and supposing it would have been so easy to say "the car I have has a complete Lincoln front end, including brakes and I can't make a Ford spindle fit" right from the get go.

I'm sorry my friend you are not the first and you won't be the last, but it does get tiresome.

On a different note, and it may just be the camera angle, is there castor built into that front cross member ?

Oh dear. Massive discs on the rear, drums on the front.

Holmes, you don't need an economical front drum setup. You need appropriate front DISC setup.

If you don't want discs in the front, then you need drums in the rear, too.

You don't get to make this choice. They are not called The Friendly Suggestions of Physics. They are laws. If you try to break them, at best, you will fail. At worst, you will die.

I am running '50 F-2 backing plates which fit both '37-'41 spindles and '42-'48 spindles (which I am using). Shoes in 1 3/4 and 32 inch widths are available to match whatever drum you run. Much cheaper than the aftermarket Lincoln backing plates.

If I would have known what it was I would have said that. That's why I took the pics and measurements in first post. I did not know what I was dealing with. Trust me I am not trying to waste anyone's time. Anyway thanks.

Don’t feel bad, I didn’t have a clue that it was a Lincoln front end either.
While sometimes we may have knowledge in one area, sometimes we are still learning about some other facets of this hobby.

If you want the cheapest F truck brakes that will pretty much bolt onto your new spindles and axle, look up Rich B's posts in the classifieds. He is always listing rebuilt F-1 and F-100 front brake sets. The best deal you are gonna find.

It will take a little swapping of bearings and seals, but I'm sure Rich can tell you which are required.

Then, you can probably sell those Lincoln brakes and make back almost all the money you spent with Rich and those new spindles. Guys who know how to use them, and want the right old parts for their traditional car, are willing to pay a bit for them.

I have purchased several sets from RichB. Excellent pieces.

  18. The square back 46 to 48 Ford spindles work much better than the round spindles on Lincoln backing plates.

    UM, HELLO, GUYS!

He has DISCS on the rear!

Please stop suggesting that he can fix his problems without addressing this stark, dangerous physics issue!

No disc rear, drum front arrangement is appropriate here.

If he wants to kill himself, don't teach him how to do it!

  20. Gimpy is 100% right, the worst idea would be to have discs in the rear and drums in the front, guaranteed disaster!!
