    Hi Matt,
    OK, I'm glad you thought out how to grab it.
    On the HF winches --> the are actually pretty good. And I'm skeptical on ANYTHING at HF. We have one on our car trailer for over 10 years and it works great. My friend is a hard-core 4-wheeler has one on his Jeep and we've used it several times with no issues.

    I know i would let it go to a restorer i like the idea of a custom but really dont think i could afford to do it justice.

    Restore it. I had one of those Harbor Freight winches for years (cheap $49.?? on sale) until a "helper" attached the battery leads backwards. went & bought another one, works well - can pull a '56 3100 PU on my roll back trailer.
