I need to replace the roller bearing and seals on my 39 Ford wide five hubs. Whats the trick on removing the race inside the hub? I have soaked with pb blaster gave the hub a slight heat with my torch. Tapped the out side and tried a small prybar, not moving.
Correct. All your seeing is the shoulder that stops the hub grease seal stop and the snap ring grove. You can't change the Bearing surface in the Hub. The Wizzard

Whether it's intended or not for the consumer to replace a race in the rear hub of a wide 5 or '40 style hub is a mystery to me. But, those drums and hubs are cast iron. Hard to believe that those rollers can ride against cast iron and last. I would assume there is a hardened (rockwell 60) race pressed in, with no intentions of being serviced. Wish I had a damaged one here to cut in half... even the '40 style hub from speedy bill looks as if there is a race installed.
Another statement saying that included with the hub, is a race, seal and lock ring. https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_...essed-in-5-x-5-1-2-bolt-pattern-ford-usa.html
From this they are correct in that the "race" is the inside of the hub it;s self along with the inner race being the axle housing end. http://www.earlyfordstore.com/produ.../9282?osCsid=c085bdbfcfb60eb6dbd7a25598b26392
I concede that the cast iron hub itself does have another steel insert installed into it by Ford that is a race. But it is not removeable by us to replace. I've never seen any regular style pound out pound in replacements for sale.
I believe that Mac's has a "repair" bearing with a smaller diameter race that presses in and the roller bearing is a smaller OD with the correct ID for the axle. No machining required.
