We ended up going north on 54. So a different route. Not a lot of firm planning on this adventure.

We will be low on internet today also. But I think the rain won't be as bad.

Have a safe trip, will follow along. There is a speed shop in Joliet (Winners Circle) if needed.
I’m a half hour away from Joliet if I can be of service in any way.
Four of us did the route last spring, I would do it again. Munger Moss motel in Lebanon Mo.
great old place to spend the night, been there 72 years, Missouri Hick Bar B Q in nearby Cuba is outstanding. Enjoy all you can, it’s awesome! :)

Thanks! Unfortunately 66 doesn't run through Nebraska.

David downloaded the instructions for the cruise and we adjusted the cable slack and is working great now on hills. Stopped for lunch in Santa Rosa and working on getting the heater installed. It's in the 40s. There is warm air blowing through the firewall, but more cold air blowing in around the doors

  21. I wonder if the smell will be different if you get that thing heated up ?
I had to do a screen in a upper radiator hose, it kept leaking around the hose so I switched to some lady's knee high stockings which worked pretty good. I had a really rusty block after hosing it out bug never sealing it.

Not disappointed. Couldn't you have found a bigger, more funky, older and more impractical vehicle?

What Cruise Control system do you have in the LaSalle?

  26. A heater? You got some luxury this time. Lots of room to fit the Edsel's sound system too! :D

we stopped somewhere in Kansas for the night. The heater is working pretty well, it's an old heater core out of a 25 year old car, with a couple 5" computer fans blowing air down through it. The whole thing is hanging under the dash on some rusty baling wire. I would post a pic but it's kind of off topic here :)

since the heater works, we haven't had to use the defogger all day, even though it's been raining lightly most of the time.

cruise is a Rostra GlobalCruise. I've had it on several cars over the years.

The engine started making a puffing sound, it seems to be teh manifold gasket, leaking at the exhaust crossover. I don't think we could find a new gasket, so it will probably stay like this for the rest of the trip. And we don't seem to have time to do much fixing, anyways.

getting 9 to 10 mpg. With the heater going, and outside temps in the 40s, the engine is running 165 degrees on the road. cools off when we slow down.

Well it's a tad chilly but at least the skitters won't be biting and all their other biting friends.

You are well seasoned for this challenge...plenty of troubleshooting and thinking on the fly...

    Safe travels in Ole Lassalia...
