I haven't had much luck recently getting my post to stay on the board, (no problem with that Mr. Moderator (s)) and I should have included this in my flames question maybe. I'm not at all into stripping either too much. Some is ok if it is done in a very limited amount. Limited to me is only on the deck lid with nothing more than a dozen total strips. Going crazy though leaves me cold. I'm sure I'm in a large minority on this one and that's alright with me also. Like I say, my car, I'll do what I like, your car do what fills you tank. :)

Everything in moderation...applies to striping, stripping and even moderating I suppose Larry.

  4. I am not an artist, nor very artistic at all so I am impressed with the ability of some of the strippers to really accent the lines of a car so well. But like you, just a few maybe on front and back.

  5. Stripping is usually done by a exotic female dancer and it's mean if you use a pin to make her strip! :D

Striping on the other hand is a entirely different art form and it can be mild or wild depending on what the customer wants.

IMHO, on a simple hot rod or custom I like to see moderation but in a over the top hot rod or custom a wild excessive pin striping can look good. HRP

I like it in when it’s subtle to enhance the overall design not overpower it.

Stripping has nothing at all to do with cars. It does however reveal some nice lines ;)

With stripping the pin comes into play later on when you pin her poster up on the garage wall Danny :D

  11. The style of the car (and the owner, for that matter) dictates the amount/expanse of stripEs on a hot rod or custom.

Well now none of the jokes make any sense!

  14. I think it should be tasteful and enhance the style and lines of the car. In my opinion, artists who go overboard showing off their technical skills without understanding this, are simply engaging in a form of creative masturbation and they’re forgetting the part that makes it “art”.

It's like playing guitar (or any instrument). It's not what you play, it's what you don't play. In other words, just because you can doesn't mean you should. I personally like subtleness. I pinstripe a little bit, and finding a stopping point can be tricky.

I love pin striping. No amount of pin striping is too much. Here's some "traditional" OT UK examples. They apparently call pin striping, "lining".

^^^ A different culture is all. The gypsies showed their wealth by decorating their vardo wagons.^^^ I've heard hot rods and customs similarly described by staid outsiders...

To me less is always more. Someone I know had all kinds of striping done on a wagon that included palm trees and topless women in grass skirts on the hood. Guess the striper got carried away on some type of surf theme. It was hideous. Can't imagine spending hard earned money for that garbage.

lordy lordy that's gaudy. I appreciate any of the artists abilities , same way with any Craftsman and there techniques , tips and tricks but being subtle may be and art itself. :D I like a bit of striping but on someone else's cars. I had a coupe once that had it all over the dash and around the gauges done by someone else. I looked at it for a bit and while is looked professional , didn't get my motor running until I turned the key.
