I know I should keep my files individually wrapped in oily cloths in a warm, dry drawer, but somehow they end up stuck in coffee cans.

I bet some folks have some good ideas about this.

    thanks,

  2. I use files everyday, I would like to see any unique storage people have come up with.

Put some planed wood shavings in there Dan, they'll absorb the dampness.

I make wooden sleeves for my laminate files. They are pricey. The rest I line up in my shallow tool box drawer. Not on top of each other.

Just don't let them touch. Paper between, etc..is all that's needed.

On the wall with wood spacers between each, a piece of wood over the that and another underneath.

2 ways: The ones I use the most, I made a bent steel angle to attach to my pegboard hammer holder, put holes and slots in it, to hang the hand files. The bodywork ones, I dedicated a drawer in a cabinet, and cut out the shapes in some old upholstery foam to keep them safe!

Interested to see others ideas. I have a deep drawer stuffed with them for 35 years.

  10. I have files that belonged to my granddad & my father and just have them in a drawer in mt tool box that has a old shop rag saturated with oil, they seem to be in great shape.

I also dropped a file my dad had and it shattered like a piece of glass. HRP

Anyone else notice how much longer files last compared to using sandpaper? Decades compared to minutes!:)

Yeah, but it takes forever to wet file a whole car at 1000, 2000, and 3000.
