History Images of vintage gas stations ~ pre 65

This is our car clubs "club house" it was a Texaco , built in 1934, and remodeled in the '50s. we're having a lot of trouble with vandalism. somebody is even stealing the panels off of the building, and all the stars. they even threw a bowling ball into the front glass.

 

Boron was specified for all LAPD vehicles by fleet manage G. Ray Wynne. It helped prevent carbon load-up in radio car engines, which often idled for long periods.

 

Corn gas even way back then

 

Of note in the 1st pic above is a 33 Willys sedan, Willys are not often seen in these scenes. JW

Here's what used to be a Phillips 66 station in Westwood Hills, KS built around 1927. It's now a coffee shop. Pretty cool to have a fireplace in a gas station.

 

What was "Extra-Dry" gas?

 

Well in colder states we had to add " Dry Gas" additive to our tanks to prevent water in the fuel from freezing. Maybe this place has done something to remove more water.

Aha... had to do the same here in Sweden.
So I guess ethanol added to the gas isn't anything new.
