Wasn't there some crash that left the spectators gasping over the shocking way he died?
If I have the correct racer, I have heard it described that during the run the driver was seen trying to lift himself out of the cage as if trying to escape something horrible. Then the frame cut completely. Somewhat like Garlits clutch explosion when his car cut in half.
The next instant was described as if you cut a slit in a tennis ball, stuffed a rag partway in, then rolled the tennis ball across the floor with the rag flapping.
That was what they said it was like when the cut rear frame section tumbled down the track with the driver hanging part way out.
I am pretty sure they were talking about the Surfers when the magazine article described this crash. Sorokin???

WHY BE ORDINARY ?

 

The Surfers had disbanded before Mike Sorokin was fatally injured. I think they went to the '65 Indy Nationals and didn't qualify so well and shortly after they folded their tent. IIRC either Skinner or Jobe got involved in sports car racing. They had great minds and their creativity kept a lot of other guys pulling their hair out. Two guys running a shoestring operation out of a cave, it doesn't get any better than that.

 

Any update's on the Magicar after the mishap at Del Mar? Car sounded really good ...hottest of the cackle cars displayed. Looked like the crank snout broke off on shut down, Felt bad for Bill All I've ever read about Sorokins accident was that the diff locked up and starting spinning in the cockpit....

 

Mike Sirokin died at OCIR in Tony Waters T/F car. Yes, it was ugly.

 

So....... I keep getting email notifications titled THE SURFERS 47 but no video. Does the guy that was making The Surfers video series have a website where he can be contacted to find out what is holding up the release of video 47 ?

I was really jonesing to see a new one, almost went and had DT's.

Episode 50 is up...

 

Episodes 47, 48, 49, 50 and 51 are all about the wrap up of the series then sadly it's all over.

RIP Thomas..Great history lesson for sure..

 

I was around when they made their "statement" and like everyone was in awe but never took time to look at the videos. I will now.

 

I watched all the episodes and was spellbound. I felt I knew Jobe. I wish I had. Absolutely super guy. So so sorry.
