If you set up a race course and hold races at El Mirage, no matter how loosely organized and casual, expect unwanted attention from the BLM.

Wasn't it once displayed in front of the FBI building in Quantico (or Wash. D.C. back then)

The car in Nevada ( the one pictured) is the actual car. I have no idea if it was displayed by the FBI.
Several fakes have been made but that one is the original.
Ironically the FBI was not involved in the Parker Barrow shooting. It was Frank Hamer (ex Texas Ranger) who was commissioned by the State of Texas and a posse that included several local lawmen.

  8. Talk to the TROG people, they might let your six run with the V8s.

I think that in any whacko racing series like this the main thing is to have the cars reasonably close in performance.
What is the performance limiter in TROG?? Am I right that it is almost entirely traction, and that there isn't a whole lot to play with there since everyone is limited to fairly normal tires and not sandbuggy things with huge flippers?
I think that for the spirit of this race, adding a few odd OLD engines isn't going to change things much as long as cars look old. And if they allow 426 hemis or something those tires will still only be paasing the same amount of power into the motivation.
If someone seriously disturbs power input there, They'll need a crane to get the car out of its hole. If they can even FIND it again.

If someone does run a 218" or a 230" Mopar flathead six against a Ford Flathead V8, I would like to know how it turned out. Reading old advertising brochures, both claimed to out perform the competition. I am just curious if the cars were fairly equal, or not.... With skinny tires, it would come down to driver skill and which engine had the torque to keep pulling... Very exciting to me.

Maybe Hudson, Essex or Terraplane. Just seen this and thought I’d add these into topic.

I think that they limit entrys to Ford Flathead type motors. Is that with the limited safety equipment used, using Chrysler and GMC six cylinder engines, would be to great a risk.

Well a simple question got totally sidetracked as usual. I asked them about running my Flathead Ford six powered boat tail at Pismo beach back when they announced that they were doing it and got the same answer "we might let you run in the exhibition class.
I'd think that there are a couple of reasons they don't take in old sixes and one is that there are only so many slots for cars before you run out of slots and time to run. The other just might be that the organizers just think the only "real race engines" are flathead four and eight cylinder Fords and blow off the sixes.

It might just be too that we need to run our six cylinder cars in some other events and get recognized a bit.
