Event Coverage Bonneville today 500 mph Rainout

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RichFox, Oct 2, 2018.

  1. Back in 1992, it rained the afternoon of the 1st day. It caused a huge mess. The next couple of days were spent in Wendover waiting for it to dry enough to run some. I spent an afternoon with Don while he was working on the 1st turbinator. He was removing one of the turbo offy's that had died. It's rare that 2 hard core racers get to spend that much time conversing. He knew that there were several cars capable of 500mph. It just takes everything to be right. :) I learned a lot about land speed racing that afternoon. Congrats to the successors on their accomplishment. :)

I think this is pretty close length wise...the 2018 Turbinator was said to be lengthened 28" and this image may in fact be the lengthened version at 36' Long...The Bluebird was 30ft Long

Anybody know how wide Turbinator is?

    Bravo Team Vesco.

Reminds me of a John Force quote.

What the heck do ya figure those closely spaced pylons were that got whacked out of the way near the last mile or so of the run? That didn't seem right. Looking at it again it seemed to only contact the shutes...at around 2:19

There was a fella at the end of the run saying there was chipped paint or something, however at 500mph many things could peel off.

I was wondering the same thing. Only thing I can figure is maybe for the chase truck to see where the car pulled off the course?

I can't imagine what goes through a driver's head when he gets in a car that will reach 500 MPH. Unbelievable.
Most hearty congratulations to the team.

It won't be long before someone makes 500+ an official record.

I believe those are just foam course markers. Helps the drivers stay on course.
