Purchased a cool oversized Moon tank which came with a neat story. Going to use it as my fuel tank. Dean Moon made it for his engine dyno set up. Cool info....

    Hey Jerry ,
ok so my Uncle, Alan Welch, had a engine balancing business named Automotive Balancing Service which goes back to the 50's. His Partner Richard Bauman also had a mail order engine shop named Speed O motive which was sold to George Ullrich in the early 90's. So My uncle purchased the dyno From Dean Moon so he could test some motors that they would be selling through Speed O Motive. this was in the late 70's and I remember that dyno room and that ol tank with several others set up there. I was about 10. I will try to track down some old photos but to be honest don't know if we have any. To bad cause that would be great all around. So the mail order shop was sold and both Alan and Richard have passed on. Years ago that dyno was parted out as it was old school stuff by then. The tank was all that remained from that program. My pops has been cleaning out some stuff from his shop/man cave and yea now it's going to a great home.

Made an upper steering support for the extension Andy Kohler fab'd for me. Made from scraps I had laying around in the garage. Had a buddy machine some nylon bushings. Worked out great. The support is hung off a couple bolts from the cowl steering box. The inner steering shaft turns freely inside.

Boling brothers finned edge drums came in today. It's a neat product they are making. Steel drum with Buick sides. They fit right over top a stock 40 hub with no machine work needed. They should work great with the Bass brakes. IMG_20180806_122915_197.jpeg IMG_20180806_122915_184.jpeg 20180806_122202.jpeg

I’ll be watching how the drums perform. I’ve had my eye on this for a little while for my 32pu.
Your brakes are turning out beautiful!

Thanks, I've heard good things about them and they look very nice. I have heard that sometimes that these drums will need to be checked and turned a bit, even though they're brand new so I will have them checked. The drums themselves are the MT ones. Boling Bros. machines and presses a new cast Buick outer on overtop and pins it to the drum for safety. Its a great idea. A buddy of mine purchased a pair when they first came out and they seem to perform very well on his car. The Bass brakes basically function as good F1 units so they should work really well.

Thanks Jer’ I had planned for awhile to do Brian’s conversion myself after I first sold a set of 48 plates I re-did and made scoops for. I sold those cause I didn’t like the dimples. Then bought a set of drilled 40 style off the classifieds. Then gave those away to help another H.A.M.B. members project. Then I was going to do Lincoln bendix with Buick 45s. Then I saw the cool drums a while ago and said time to just by another set of smooth “40s”, drill’m, scoop’m, Bass mod’m, and some black.
    Your chrome stuff is da’bomb.
All your stuff is great inspiration.

Did you see how I flattened the sides of a 7/16” stainless tube for the center strip for my pines clone?
I will weld the top and bottom pieces into it

Don’t know why I haven’t put this together since the shutters and everything is done

That looks great. What diameter did you use for the perimeter piece?

My outside piece is an original stock insert I got for a hundo. Most of the bars were messed up or missing. I hooked up other HAMB’rs with what was salvageable and was off to the races on this project. I’m confident that the Pines were at least a 1/2”. I am now planning on making a more accurate outside for ct1932ford from scratch if I could find out how thick they really are.
You let me know or I’ll let you know?
I made my bars out of copper(gonna piss on’m) with my bead roller. It’s all on my thread.

The moon tank that was on Dean Moon's engine Dyno showed up today. At first I didn't think it was going to fit in the car because it's huge. It actually tucked in nicely right behind the seats

Threw it in and mocked it up

Got a set of 40 hubs set up with new bearings and seals. Wanted to see how the brakes and drums fit up when hung on the spindles. Seems like everything fit up nice.

I just ran across this thread and read it all the way through. You've got some skills man, the detail in this car is out of this world. Thanks for sharing.

Fire in the hole. Pat had a nice old chrome plated housing and base that vertex would take around to shows when they would set up displays. He set up the internals and cut the shaft for my caddy motor and topped it with the aluminum cap cover I picked up. Wild IMG_20180821_133155_189.jpeg 20180821_132237.jpeg
