Jim I didn't tell the whole story but you just filled in the blanks. The car I posted is a recreation of his fathers A/MP that the father ran back in the 70's he told me that. The car I posted has a LS engine with EFI and runs in the SuperStreet class a 10.90 index. It's real cool seeing the fathers car.

Pat, realistically even though some of us are living back in the 60s with much of the 60s technology, we are not entirely stupid and we know that the LS engines are an easy way to go fast. At times I feel my Sierra with an LS3 would beat some of my hotrods on the dragstrip. Some time ago I was at Milan and saw a 66 SS Chevelle and it ran really well so I went back to his pit to check it out. Not surprisingly it had an LS which I would be lying if I did not admit it let be down a bit-but did not surprise me.

That being said I think it is cool that he is racing a "recreation" of his dad's car no matter which power plant he chose. If he ran it just as his dad had it, he would most likely be restricted to a few nostalgia or vintage events.

That one belonged to Don Gist from Florida and I believe that it was a national record holder. Here is another shot of it.

Jason you are correct on it being Don Gist. He ran in A/S and was quite successful running in the 12s. He also ran in SCCA events (1960 and 1961-with a 1960 Corvette I believe-similar paint scheme) and had some measure of success. I really like the Halibrands on the front and nice wheels on the rear. I believe this to be 1962 at a track in Florida.

1947knuck has posted a great series of pictures in the drag cars in motion thread. One of which is the Don Gist '62 A/S.

Another one I like of the many 1947knuck has posted recently in the drag cars in motion thread is this 365hp '64. The photos appear to have been taken at Amarillo TX Dragway.

I believe the 00 62 above is Dave McDonald. He ran the car with a few different looks. The front license plate with Don Steves on it is a dead giveaway.
