Not good for first pass. I pulled up under tower before burnout box and the car popped and shut off. Got it running did the burnout and staged. Launched good went straight about almost half track I could feel the back tires skating side to side slightly so I got out of it and instantly it started popping and not wanting to run. Got it on the return road and it quit running. It was flooded, got it going but would not stay fired. Back at the pits I took a close look at the carb and at idle the secondaries where leaking into the carb. Causing the flooding problem. The day before I ran it in the pits and around the track property with no issues. Then the Gremlin raised his ugly head when I leased expected it.
It was my first time ever on a dragstrip so I didn't try to set the world on fire. Need to ease my way into this. The Fiat is extremely narrow and short and no since wrecking it right out of the box. Went 9 seconds in the 1/8th mile. Mainly because I got out of it so early. Better days yet to come once bugs are worked out.

Had that same carb issue recently on my car. Rear carb pouring gas out around the throttle shaft. Pulled the rear carb and the float was stuck on the secondaries. Washed the needle out with carb cleaner and reinstalled it. Runs like new again.

Yes, I sure did. Suicide doors are cool till one pops open at about 80mph. Last pass of the weekend and I launched it harder than previous passes. My guess is the car was twisting just enough to pop the latch. I had just shifted to high gear and it flew upen faster than you could blink. Made a spring loaded safety latch so it doesn't happen again. Luckily the rear fender kept the door from hitting the body. Creased the fender and caved the door in. I have been able to straighten the do so it functions and I am making a set of radiused rear fenders.

My Austin also has suicide doors and I have dead bolt safety catches I installed inside to prevent them from opening at the drags under hard launches. Everyone with suicide doors and drag races should have a dead bolt inside to save the doors and body.

Here is mine. Spring loaded pin that goes into door. Drilled a 3 and1/2" hole in the lexan incase the event someone needs to get me out of the car, they can pull it back to open the door. 20180815_123828.jpeg

Upon closer inspection, no marks where found. Also no leakage from same area. Lol once it opened there was nothing I could do, just slowed down. When I pulled off the track an official came over to close the door, but it would only close a little more than half way. Made back to the pits and took the inner door panel off and pushed out the dents with my foot until the door worked again. 20180729_190143.jpeg

  28. No kidding, I thought with the double latching they do it would be impossible to pop open.
