I’m sitting here this morning watching The Velocity Channel and I see a Summit commercial. The star of it is the Crazy Grandpa Corvette. Awesome

I wonder how the cammer did in the early Vette? I know you LB are a bit partial to the blue oval (and I have one in my barn as well) but I remember fondly the battles at my local track between the Midwest 57 B/MSP and B/G 427 injected 4 speed Vette and Bill's Speed Shop 57 T-Bird with a cammer. I talked to Ron Reader who owned the Midwest Vette and he told me he loved beating Bill Coon in his Bird. I watched them run probably 8 times or so in actual competition and the Vette won every time. Bill's car was no slouch though and I believe he won the Winternationals in 67. There had to have been a reason that they stuffed the cammer in that Vette when they were allegedly a Ford Speed Shop. Does anyone know how successful the Al Grillo Ford Speed shop car was?
I have never seen any information on The Corvette with the Cammer. Here is another shot to keep things moving
LOL if he was anything like me he did it because he had one and wanted to cause the Vette guys some heartburn That particular photo is on many sites I come across it all the time and only that shot but never anymore info.
Funny thing LB I do not believe it would have caused any real heartburn to speak of. The guys I ran with knew I had worked in a body shop from age 13 and figured I could help them on their project 57 Vette that was a mess. The car either cost $100 or $200, like so many other discarded early Vettes that were little more than junk. They were available and were chump change and we knew nothing of numbers matching nonsense or future values. They were just cheap cars that made decent drag cars (maybe due to the front to rear bias). There was in those days die hard Chevy versus Ford versus Mopar (although I had all makes so it was not as big a deal to me) but they were a Ford Speed Shop so I thought it a bit unusual. I would have thought it would have ruffled the blue oval guys moreso or at least as much as the Chevy guys.
