There have been two on ebay recently, one sold for 23,600 and the other sold for a little over 22k. Just need to keep your eyes peeled.
I have an eye out for one too. My bucket list car for sure. Sedans and crew cabs are easily 1/2 the price if a standard coupe. Deluxe coupes are the holy grail.
Keep looking ,you will find one. It most likely will need some work, but that is part of the fun for a lot of us. Good luck!
Be patient. You'll find one... It won't be perfect, but you will find one. Ironically, it's the trucks that are getting really really hard to find at decent prices... I gave up on my hunt simply because I refuse to pay more for a truck than a couple just out of general hot rodding principle.
It might be a deal but that's still a lot of money. Your average Joe won't be able to afford it plus you still have to invest a lot more money to make it decent.
I was looking the other day for a wagon to tow my gasser project when I get it done. you can buy a nice convertible for less than a station wagon. go figure. 40 coupes are cool. Spent much of my mis spent youth under my buddies changing transmissions. That 401 Buick would just shred them old Ford transmissions.
If $11,500 is too much for a 40 Deluxe coupe that appears as complete as that one is, then perhaps building a 40 coupe is not for you. That price seems pretty reasonable to me. Mick
The Nashville car is a pretty serious bargain. I looked for about two years and ended up with this one. I paid $8500 for her and it needed complete floors and trunk. -Abone.
http://dennis-carpenter.com/m/1940FordCoupeBody.aspx $11,900 and no rust repair! $15,450 with doors and deck lid
The one shown looks like a bargain to me if as said the floors and trunk are good.. Building/buying a good 40 is not cheap these days. I have built many and it is never cheap to do one. I've paid that and more for rollers and was glad to get them. Just make sure it's complete-some parts getting tough to find.
What about a blown 39? Ignore the 80's paint job... https://boise.craigslist.org/cto/d/39-ford/6582604947.html
There is one in the farm paper I get. Was in yesterday's. 1940 Deluxe coupe, '51 flathead starts and runs. Needs complete restoration. 6200.00 N.J. 609-405-3008. He also has a 1939 Mercury sedan that runs and drives for 3700.00. Gene.
That Nashville car, with a little paint blending could be run as survivor paint, not everyones thing, but I never find those in IL and would eventually like to build one. Interested to see what you find.
'40 coupes certainly have escalated in price, my older brothers bought this black one in 1960, for $50.00. They caught our neighbor drunk and talked him into selling it. Boy, did he have sellers remorse the next day. It did come with bumpers, they were just off for cleaning, SOS pads did the trick.
Five or ten years ago a friend bought a '40 Ford coupe body for $600. Not great but straight with doors and deck on it. Find a driver sedan and combine and presto.
