    Hello,

Ever wonder what would happen if you had unlimited time, facilities, and money to build what you want in a hot rod/drag race car? After our time was over at the drags, thoughts always churned around. We originally wanted a turtledeck, SBC street roadster for the B division in the S/R street class. (that HS kid in a red RPU was an inspiration) An A/Gas BBC Willys pickup to go after the big boys, and this stretched bucket body for those growing teenagers.

Also, we wanted to go against the super Hemi powered, A/S/R class racers. (58-60 street roadsters were drive to, set up and race types.) When we sat in a 60's T Bucket, one thing was obvious, our lanky bodies would not fit unless the seating area was larger. We always shied away from those tight roadsters. But, a stretched T Bucket pickup body would do nicely.

Why mess with the SBC, we wanted to go after Junior Thompson in that Cassidy, black roadster with the big Hemi motor. Yes, it was a handful to drive and a bit scary. But, hey, we were teenagers with the whole world ahead of us…”What is there to worry about, going down the dragstrip?”

His early inspiration, with his knowledge, mechanical, and driving skills, sparked my brother and me to build a street legal, gas coupe. The black Studebaker sedan was already famous for its power and victories in the gas coupe/sedan class, all over So Cal.

The Hemi powered street roadster pick up would still be able to cruise around our Bixby Knolls hot spots in the fine So Cal weather. Daily driver to high school? I am sure the auto shop teacher would have allowed me to park in the secured fenced-in lot during school. Since I was a “regular” in that shop and it would be a display of positive thinking.

“Dream along with me, I'm on my way to a star,
Come along, come along, leave your worries where they are.”
