I'd like to see some inspirational pix of "homemade" roadster pickups made out of touring cars or phaetons. Pix can either be vintage or of member's own creations. Bonus for luxury cars turned into roadster wreckers! I'll start with an early 20's custom Studebaker pickup, a shop-built Studebaker wrecker and a nice survivor Chevy rod.
Mine. 26 Touring cowl and doors I built the rest. Then I narrowed a reproduction A tailgate 4” and fabbed the bed. Home built frame and pretty much everything else. Presently going back together after paint and shiny stuff.
I built mine from cut down coupe body, shortened the doors to make it close to Roadster pickup dimensions.
Still need to finish this one up. Started with a front half of a touring but ended up reskinning it keeping only the substructure. Built everything but part of the grille shell and the hood from flat sheet.
I found these photos on eBay some time ago - Original parts are limited to the grill, and the closed Car cowl, the rest is home made
Thanks everyone for your pictures. They're helping with my decisions for the direction of my project. Here's my reason for starting this thread: It's a 1929 Studebaker frame, fenders and running board aprons with '27 Stude radiator and shell and a '24 Studebaker Light Six touring car body front half. I also have a better cowl and windshield stanchions to graft on later: I definitely want to do a pickup, but I don't know if I would rather buy a metal bed or make a wood one. I'm not ready to do a build thread yet. I still want to work on parts gathering and project direction first. Here's a couple more Studebaker shots I have for my inspiration, even though they aren't roadsters:
Hope you're planning a Stude mill. . You'll like it even better. & a proper-era-styled wood bed would be "the BERRIES"... . Marcus...
