Man! I appreciate your help. Looks like an undertaking... I'll figure something out. If it was easy everyone would do it, right? Thanks again man
This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Awesome build! I'm so excited to see another guy tackle this. Have you hooked driveshaft up yet? What engine is in your '59? Love it.
I hope we can all learn from each other. I'm a measure two-hundred times and research for weeks guy. I like a smooth outcome. If I can keep mistakes to a minimum I think this could be a cool thing.
Drew; I totally get building Kustoms, I've been in that camp all my life. I also prefer the 57 over 8's and 9's. I have had at least one and at one time 7 of them since 1964. I'm just going to throw this out there. What is it about the 59 you just Love over the 57? Why do you want to go this route in lou of just having a 57 H.T? The Wizzard
I love the idea of the '57 style top. But if a '57 top is to narrow, would the top of a '60 hardtop be a better fit ??
I totally get it. Let's do this! What your about to venture into is like this. I can assure you this was no small under taking. I would hope your vision of your 59 finished is ass nice as this Bird. Yes it can be done. No it will not be easy. The Wizzard
Just an idea of stance and lowering. This is my car with aerostar spring in front and 3" blocks in the back. With 15" tires. Every once and awhile Ill bottom tires out on the rear inner fenderwells..... And this is the early production Fairlane 500 roofline. Has wraparound back glass and is a hardtop.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Damn, I just learned something. I did not know there was two different back windows in the same two door hard top model. The Wizzard
First 3 months were made like this, 21,000+ units, then Ford started the Thunderbird style roof. And changed name from Fairlane 500 to Fairlane/Galaxie. At least this is what I have been told..... Starliner roof would be interesting.....
Very interesting info and yes mine is Branded, Fairlane and Galaxie. Note the center of the deck lid and on the Quarter by the back up light. The Wizzard
Thanks philo426, The real Kool part is that every square inch of the paint is factory 1959. She is unrestored but Mechanically new bumper to bumper. I can't remember exactly but it either has 72 or 78 K miles on it now. I'm the Second owner, and you could be the Third. Just last night I decided being I haven't driven it in 2 years it should go to someone that will. Just sitting isn't any good for them. The Wizzard
I plan on making it just as nice as that bird. No, it'll be a long road for sure. I am having fun with the car right now, I think in three winters I can finish it. We'll see. I'm not going to tear it apart until I finish my other projects though, as this is the car that keeps me sane while I work on the other stuff.
Mind blown. I had no idea. I'm going to guess though that is a hard to find unit! My car might be that low already, though I didn't see lowering blocks on it. I'm guessing the suspension is just worn out. It does have 6 cylinder springs in the front with a V8, so maybe thats why the front looks low. I'm not sure on this old of a car if the 6 & 8 cars had different components like Mustangs and newer cars have, but I am assuming thats how it's always been. My car was a 6cyl when new. It was used up and sat in a Georgia backyard. Sometime in the seventies it received a V8 and paint job, then it sat some more. Then in the '90's it got these ugly truck wheels put on it (painted blue...wheels looked like Jeep Renegade wheels). A few years ago my friend Stan bought it and got it to it's current state. Its not that nice, but it is a ridiculously nice starting point. I was looking at four doors that didn't run for the same money. Then one day I found a black two-door straight six, same money. Stan's was nicer, and blue. so I went with it. I have no regrets.
Drew; What part of your vision of the 59 in it's finished form are you most qualified to do as of today? The Wizzard
I put a T5 from MDL into my 57 Fairlane . Used their adaptor for a flathead to put it behind the 312.
had to notch the crossmember and add a reinforcing plate on the bottom side. made a floor hump not pretty but works great.
Yikes, I think I saw a ghost, sold this wagon some (8?) years ago. Neat cars. '60 Starliner roof is intriguing to me.
yeah, I've built cars. It wont be any big deal skill-wise. its a money game, as most things are now-days.
Oh if your wondering of my avatar I have a 57 ford with 58 ford top chopped 3 inches grafted on too it back in 1962
I always thought a '59 Ford needed a little help in the roof department. Not knocking them - they are actually my favorite (stock) of the '57-59s. But that boxy roof never did anything for me. Since a '57-58 Fairlane roof is going to be quite a lot of surgery, have you considered anything else? Maybe a rusty '60-62 Chrysler could be a donor? Looks like it would add that drama the stock roofline is missing. Just a thought.
As I was reading this, the '60 roof idea hit me, but you guys beat me to it. I think it would be awesome. Not something I'm brave enough yet to try on my '59 Galaxie. Maybe in the far future. The Watson car is going to be the inspiration for mine. One day. Also found another one online that looks cool, not HAMB friendly, too modern. Stock body, big wheels, airbags. Just looks good. Currently gathering parts to turn my 332 into a 390.
