Technical Model A Piston Rings.....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rustyironman, Apr 4, 2018.

  1. Does somebody have a set of loose Model A compression rings they could measure the ring groove depth portion of the ring, Not the width, but the depth. Like I have measured in the pic attached.

    Trying to figure out if I can mix and match from a Model A ring set and will work for my custom project (same bore size and same groove width -but no suppliers catalog lists the ring groove depth portion of the ring for an A).

    I found this here...

    All piston ring sets are a US made Grant or Hastings brand 3 ring type. The gap of the rings must not line up; keep them about 1/4 turn from each other.

    Piston Ring Specifications:

    Ring diameter: Same as piston - 3.875" stock

    Ring groove depth: 7/32"

    Ring groove width: Upper two - 1/8", Lower - 5/32"

    Ring taper: .001"- narrower at the top than the bottom

    Ring clearance in groove: .001" to .002"

    Ring end gap: Top .012" to .015"; Middle .010" to .012";

    Lower .008" to .010"

  3. I don't think that mac's figure is correct since they are now owned by eckler's. I've never seen a ring that was .2187" deep on a Model A.....
