Does anyone know if a Carter WA-1 will bolt onto a stock 235 intake?
I'm trying to upgrade from my leaky Rochester.
    Thanks

nope - it has the narrow bolt mount pattern for a 216. Everyone hogs them out ruining the carb. Plug and redrill the manifold (or put dual carbs on it)

Thanks for the info 6inarow, I didnt realize there wa a difference. I guess I should look for a YF from a 235 or 250?

In my opinion the YFs are good carbs had one on my 56 for years and never gave a lick of trouble. the other one to look for is a Stromberg BXOV-2 - probably the best carb made for us inliners. Hopefully Jon will chime in soon......

Didn't know about the Stromberg, thanks!
I'm having a hard time finding the right YF, I'll add the Stromberg to my search.

The Chevrolet 216 and pre-1950 235 engines used S.A.E. size 2 carburetors. The 1950 and newer 235's used size 3 carburetors:

    http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carbshop_carbsizesandCFM.htm

On a Stromberg, the number following the letters is the S.A.E. size:

    http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Strombergcodebreakdown.htm

For some reason I have never understood, and the engineers at Carter that I asked didn't have the answer; The number following the model letter on a Carter is one less than the S.A.E. size.

    So, examples:

    Carter W-0 is a size 1, W-1 is a size 2, W-2 is a size 3. The WA-1 is a size 2.

Carter discontinued the coded size about 1950. The only way to know the S.A.E. size for a Carter YF is to look up the carburetor identification number in the Carter Master manual.

    Examples of Stromberg:

    BXOV-2 is a size 2, BXUV-3 is a size 3.

    THE ABOVE ARE PHYSICAL SIZES!

Once one determines the physical size to fit the manifold, one needs to determine the internal (venturi) size to properly run the engine.

Stromberg and Zenith both published charts to help with this; but in the absence of a chart, one can GUESS that a carburetor from a similar engine of similar displacement may be used.

Here is a list of the Carter YF's for Chevrolet that I compiled from the Carter records:
