Need to replace the seat in my 48 F1. Would like to replace it with a bench seat the folds
like the original. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Get out the tape measure and measure the width of the seat and the lean back.
According to the Ford truck site the inside width of the cab is 53 inches
The bench in my 92 Dodge front suspension donor measures right close to 50 at the wide part of the cushion close to the front. That may be one worth checking out. Seat is a pretty comfortable bench and the back folds on the standard cab trucks.
They look like this. If you were close this one would be free for taking it out as the left overs are going to go away in the next couple of weeks if the weather lets me take it apart. 92 dakota seat.jpg

Thanks for the suggestion. I live in SoCal in the high desert.
Not close enough for the freebie. Appreciate.

They shouldn'd be hard to find and check out with the tape measure. I don't think it's wide enough for my 48 but I will probably test fit it after I pull it out of the Dakota. I like the way it felt when my buddy towed me out of where it had been sitting when I bought the truk.

I had this issue a few years back , looking for a replacement . Best I can recall you will determine 48 cab has a taper to it . Narrower in the front . If you find a seat to fit it will not be wide enough at the rear of the cab . I ended up looking and found a usable seat from an F4 Dump Truck . If you use two separate seats , maybe easier to fit the space .

I found a rear bench seat from an astro van that fits width wise. I'm a little concerned front to back as I don't have the trans in currently it looks like it might interfere. Seemed close enough to hang onto and comfy when i test fit.

  8. I used a second seat from a Ford Aerostar, 3 row model.....it folded, but the release latch was on the passenger side...fit fine in my F1..got it covered in fresh fake leather for 300 bucks, made some cuts/welding on the seat frame and in it went

Thanks for the input guys. I'm making a list of the various seats to look for.
Wrecking yards are very sparse where I live.

  10. ...all above suggestions are good, early S-10 pickups or Ford Ranger seats will work.
On the third seat from an Astro Van, just move the backrest release and put a screw in it so you can tip the backrest from the driver's side...here's an S-10 p.u. seat in my 48 F-1.
    fits nice.

I used an older S10 seat for my 50 F1. I had to build a 4" riser to get it high enough.

    Hey Rusty1
I found a Ford Ranger bench seat 1983-1992 looks in pretty good shape.
    Would that one work?
    Thanks

  18. ...should work, does it have built-in headrests or removable ones,...headrests don't look rite in old trucks, just my opinion.

Dakota seat works great, this one is a 2000 or so with a fold down arm rest. 275.JPG 657.JPG

Dodge Dakota '87-'94 standard cab bench.
    No highback.
Pull the headrests off and have it recovered.
Used them on at least a dozen truck builds.

  24. My truck is not traditional. This is a 89 Dakota with the arm rest in black ultraleather. DSC05938 (Small).JPG

I'd measure a seat out of 1988 or so Chevrolet pickup. Saw one in a 1954. Not only looked like it belonged but gave an inch or two of extra space because of the way it's built.

    Won't work in an F1.
    F100 is wider inside.
    I used a '96 Silverado seat in my '54.

Just pick a seat that is close to being depth wise. They all can be widened or shortened. I widened this one an inch and a half. The owner thought it wouldn`t matter. After being completed, he understood why I did it. Looked much better. It fit the truck much better. It`s a 53 Chevy pickup, The owner didn`t know what it was out of. I widened it in the middle and swapped out the center armrest for a wider one. Scan0557.jpg
