I purchased a 235 Chevy engine that is from a 1958 Delray. I am going to use it in a 1951 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton truck. I want to use the original bellhouse, step starter, and 3-speed column shift manual transmission. Do I need special motorm mounts to use this? I also want to to lower the truck. Aside from the 235, I want to keep the truck original. Your help is appreciated. Im 2 weeks into the restoration.

The 58 engine will have side motor mounts, not the 51's front mount. DAVIS SPEED EQUIPTMENT has the motor mounts needed, nice parts and fair pricing. Find them online or their Ebay store. Dyno Dave

Just drill the front plate for the mount and you can use the original bellhousing ,starter and flywheel. The water pump will sit lower and is longer then the original so the radiator will have to be moved forward or a shortened pump is needed and there is a adapter made so the 51 water pump cam be used on the 55 to 62 motors.

I second the Front Mount option! No extra expense, no fitment issues with side mounts and other components.
That's how my '56 235 was done in my '49 Chevy Sedan.

Wow. Thanks everyone! I was not expecting so many responses so quickly. Looks like I've got some reading to do. Please keep sharing the knowledge, this is my first personal car project.

I have a 57 235 in a 37 p/u,you can use the existing flywheel and go with a 55 to 58 truck foot stomp starter. I originally used the 55 and up car starter but decided it needed to go back and I tried to make it look like a 216 to confuse the know it alls.

Does the 235 side cover fit on a 216?

A 235 side cover is too small to go on a 216 but I was able to put a 216 side cover over the 235 cover to look like its a 216.

So i dug deeper into my truck this weekend and i see that the frame is 3-sided: I cannot weld the Davis mounts in place for my 1958 235 engine. I also looked at Jimenez Bros in Riverside CA and their mounts are welded to the inside -4th frame rail. Any thoughts on another mount for my 51 and the late model 235?
