Thank You Jimmy. Here new pics. 1st doorpanel is "semi ready". First escutcheon looks not so good, but second one is better. I want to keep interior simple. Race. Aulis
Yes they are Smith's. Have the water tubes at home to put on when all done. Good eye!!! Sent from my XT1650 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thank You Sirs. Nothing show quality, I like more to make hot rods for daily driving.... Today I made driverside doorpanel. I made new escutcheons, those are better outlook than 1st prototype. Tomorrow I made cowl panels, that is easier job. Last and biggest job is to make one piece panel behind seats. Need to measure and make plan how to do it. Sides + two corner + rear. Im not sure how it goes,.... If not try, never know. Aulis
The workmanship and interior details remind me of NealinCA's RPU build. Nice job! What type of fastener are you using for the door panels?
I love Traditional Hot Rods that have the owner/builder spin on them. This one hits some notes I have never seen before. Always wanted a '39 box stuffed full of LZ gears when I was a kid for my '40. I can't wait for you to get this one on the road --- where it will make you a King. You tin work is just right. I'd bet the dash insert was for a speedboat.
Thanks. I think You are correct, dash is made originally for speedboat use. I need to make it little more "matt" before final installation. Fasteners are normal 1932 ford 5w coupe interior screws and washers. Im not sure if I leave those. I just ordered from CA small things like Nuts, bolts, screws, some wiring stuff etc. With floorpanels I have used Basic flat splitted screws and like those, simple like builder. Maybe I change interior screws to same , when I get those more.
Your dash panel looks like somebody's new version of an Auburn. Looks like they widened and lowered the design to fit more gauges across. Is it billet aluminum, or cast?
Dash panel is casted. Today get ready cowl side panels. Looks maybe too simple, but I do want to make any extra bead. Also started to make one piece rear panel sketch.
Hard day. Today, Saturday, I started 6.00 Morning to cut rear piece (2meters long , nearly 7feet). After nine hours panel is ready. Still need to work with it, but 90% ready. Hands are now like "paste". It´s rather heavy job to work with english wheel alone, when have big panel. Side beads need to make outside. My garage is too low..... Aulis
That looks great! I thought you were going to make it out of multiple pieces of sheet... now I understand why you were having space issues with your garage!
Thanks. I decided to piece my bead roller machine tomorrow morning. If I take foot off, then I can put machine lower and I can make those last beads. If get machine 2feet lower, then I have enough free space to work. Sometimes low and small garage is not so good, but..... I like that small garage feeling....
Interior ready and garage fixed. I make little arrangements and get more space. Need to lift body off and bolt it to the trolley. easy to paint it when body is higher.[ All aluminum parts need to sand (refine.... I do not know what is right word ...) with water. I do it before final installation. Mirka Abranet 500, 1000 or 2000 to the eccentric grinding machine + water ... Result is nice, but not too "shiny". After that it is easy to buff/polish if want.... This airstream I sand and polished 7y ago Aulis
AULIZ, Awesome metal work!! It was a decade ago I started on my roadster and we finished it out here. I have had a blast with it cruising the back roads to No'whereville ...check out my blog below. Keep at it and good luck!! My blog: https://ontheroadtonowhereville.wordpress.com/ High Noon Speed Shop
Thank You Sir. Very interesting website. I need to visit there in the evening . Today (Monday) Morning I made this "phone and paper" -pocket and installed it. Still need to make rear frame support tube. Flanges are laser cut and ready waiting for. Im not interested in to use those SS tubes. Front I have original tube with lic.plate holder. Aulis
Thank You Carl. Here rear tube. I used old tube and flathead headers flanges.... AULIS Carb scoops look nice over hood top level ! aulis
Thanks. "poor man need to do all itself".... Parts have to buy, but easy to save doing all from machinery jobs to paintjob.
Whoah. Every day, I notice I new detail. The bent metal pockets are boss! Incredible work on display!
Thank You Sir. Today need to continue making battery box in to the trunk. Normally I like those original style battery boxes/locations (under floor) but this frame they have added 1934 style long frame support from K-member to rear and that´s why there is no enough free space behind K-member. Mufflers arrived yesterday. I use new very short (10", 250mm), free flow mufflers. Big Flathead sound is so nice, why to hide it.... By the way, Kimi Räikkönen, Finnish F1 driver, says every time "whoah",.... Aulis
Slowly foward.... Now original fenders fit 100%, if need to use some day...... If have to use fenders is like You loose Your human rights ! I tig welded rear fender studs and squared nut to the rear quarters. I like those orig.style mountings. Now orig.fenders fit good. Yesterday I started to bolt off doors, floors, interior.... Saturday when when we come home, I call two friend to lift body off. Need to make outside of my garage own "painting room". Racing Pit tent (6m x 3m) with walls and liquid gas warmer. There I paint all "acid" paint etc etc (I do not know right words for those paints). Only final colour in real painting room. aulis
Body lifted up. Also welded togetger batterybox and same time take round over body and rewelded some factory weldings. Tomorrow can start working with frame, brake master cylinder, rear axle, rear crossmember need to "drop"..... Aulis
Thank You Sir. Here today afternoon result. I was ordered from USA new 1940 "dropped" rear crossmember. First I think to change crossmember, but today I decided to cut and drop original member. Now frame is 3" lower than earlier. I know that now rear tires are fill all rear inner fender area. Front end is too high, but I don´t want to use drop axle....... I like those 1932 Heavy axles. 50" Wide, heavy, and outlook is perfect. New tires are coming from USA. Rear tires are higher than old ones (old 7.00-16 and new 7.50-16) and new front tires are lower than old ones.
