    Hispano-Suzza WW1 V8 liquid cooled aircraft engine. Liberty was a large aircooled V12. This picture and question was well covered elsewhere, here.

    The first attached photo is (I believe) of Bill Milliken in the FWD Miller at Pikes Peak in 1948. I think I have heard that this car still exists in a Wisconsin museum.

    And the second photo is of the Ray Crawford Kurtis that was driven in the 1953 500 by Bill Holland. However, I'm not sure just who is in the cockpit in the photo. Crawford himself got in some laps as did John Fitch and Edgar Elder before Holland came along.
