I have a 1960 Pontiac with 389. The timing cover is cracked around one of the bolt holes. Does a late model timing cover work with the easier to find water pump?
If it's an aluminum front cover, it can be welded up and benched... But only after a good cleaning...
60 cover is cast iron. First for the non reverse flow cooling scheme. Is the cover leaking somewhere? It is a one off cover...i.e. 1960 only, but I know it has been used on later years. Not sure about the reverse tho...i.e. later styles used on 1960.
I'm sure that is the source of my leak, yes. Another Hamber replied offline saying later model covers won't work either. The hole that is cracked is the hole below the radiator hose neck.
Here is a link showing the differences in the engines/years. http://www.pontiacsafari.com/L1EarlyV8Pontiacs/V8 Engines/index.html Or if you go here http://www.pontiacsafari.com/ and go to the Pontiac Garage Section, Interchangeability, it definitely says that the 60 is a one year only for the timing cover.
