Picked up this 59 Merc yesterday. Its rough, BUT is complete, has a title, and the price was very good. I am looking for the best places to buy parts for it. The first thing I need is an ignition switch w/key and a good wiring diagram. Where is the best place to buy parts? Macs? eBay? It will need a windshield, but cant find any under $600 shipped. Let me know below what you think. Eventually videos will be made on this car!
"N" code on the data plate. 383 - 280 H.P. engine. These guys will be your wallets new best friends https://www.lincolnoldparts.com/ Its going to be a project. Good luck from a fellow Mercury guy ! Oldmics
Bad part about replacing the windshield is finding the rubber for it. I have yet to find a new replacement for ours. As for other parts, Mac's has very few for these cars unless they cross to a more common Ford counterpart. Ebay has been a good place to find parts for me. I got a nos ignition switch from there as well as a few other parts. Depending on the condition of the wiring, may be a good idea to upgrade and wire the whole car. I have both the Service and Parts manuals if you have any questions or want any factory part numbers that could aid with finding what you need. I do have a Montclair parts car, but it is in bad shape. Sorry, the windshield is spoken for. Good luck.
I am really liking the tail lights on that 59'. It looks like a solid car. I have a few mercs myself. I found out quickly that parts are a bit harder to find but they are out there. Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk
Great project! Finds like this are fun because it is not your usually make/model. I have no answers to any of your questions other than encouragement. Sent from my SM-G550T using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm surprised you could find a windshield for it, at ANY price! Those big Mercs are cool though, very cool!
As far as a wiring diagram, a "Factory" 59 Merc. shop manual should have one in it, along with lots of other information. There's several listed on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=1959+Mercury+shop+manual&_sop=1
This will be a great project but challenging for sure. I had a '59 Park Lane convertible in '65-67. I don't think I have ever seen another one since. that was one big car. John
Great car!! Those big Merc's are fantastic. Its going to be a challenge but it will sure be worth it in the end as they are such unusual cars with great lines. Good luck Bobby
Well, it's pretty rotten. It would depend I suppose on what you're looking for. Feel free to PM me with what you need or with pics. Sent from my SM-N910V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Anyone have any idea where the carb return springs are supposed to go on a 2 barrel carb? mine are broken and were never on the car...
I’ve been watching the videos on youtube, definitely one of the cooler cars you’ve dont videos on! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
@big M can probably help you locate a few parts. To be honest, $600 for a new windshield doesn't sound too far out of line. You might get lucky and find one for less, but I wouldn't expect it to be significantly less. (PS - I'm assuming "new" means unused / NORS, and not just a used windshield.)
The late 50's FoMoCnd body styles - so windshields were a lot like mopars...they changed mucho between the years....have fun and buy a book er manual !
I"ll bet Steel Rubber could help with something for the windshield seal. https://www.steelerubber.com/ Oldmics
I also found to very long but broken springs in my parts bucket with the car, but I don't know how they mount
