I love this nicely done vintage look of Matt's place, Mick.

Thanks Bill (@Sancho ) One thing I like better on the original is that it didn't have that second exhaust pipe behind the rear wheel. That is the only thing I don't like about the new one.

Dan, I assume you know that is called a "Bellflower" exhaust tip (or simply "Bellflowers"), and they were/are hugely popular. (Some even reference "Bellflower-Style" customs.)
Watson's shop was in Bellflower, Cal.

  8. If I had a '58 Impala it would look just like this. I'd have a hard time picking which version, but I lean towards the first. I just like too many cars and have too many favorites. I should just quit cars and take up golf....surely then I wouldn't have any unachievable goals to chase after. Bwahahaha!!!

Dan and DrDave, thanks for the great shots of the skirted Jim Baker Merc. Very tasty!

Roger, You were hanging out at a high school reunion when I shot this at the Woodbine IA show.

Good to see you postin Bill. 54Delray Is it just me, or am I the only person who doesn't care for the Bellflower tips. I understand it at the time, but not now. Great thread. It`s a lot to absorb. But it only strengthens the build style I`m drawn to.

That is a 47, that was out of Colorado. I bought it at the Memphis NSRA nats late 70s. I drove it to Cincy where I did several upgrades and drove it to southern CA when I moved to North Ridge in 1980. Then when I moved to Thailand in 85 I sold it to a guy that worked at a studio. He painted it Rootbeer, The last I knew it is back in the mid west. Cstmcrs1982.jpg CstmcrsSpread.jpg croped 47.jpg img050-vi.jpg 47 drop.jpg P6190409StickShift-vi.jpg

I have always loved this car. Here are some pictures I have taken over the last 30 years. The car resides in Minnesota. Awhile back, the granddaughter was looking for info on the car here on the HAMB. Sorry about the poor Quality of the last pic. They are in order from oldest to newest. Thanks for posting. His car was featured a few years back in the Special Custom Exhibit at the Oakland Roadster show that Rik Hoving had a hand in. .

  15. Great pics Jim (@stanlow69) and @Bangkok Dean! You guys both posted pictures of it with the top off--never seen that before. It looks great either way. This is also the first time I heard it was from Colorado. Anybody know who built it?
Just my opinion, but I liked the green version better. E

  16. I had never seen it with the wires either.

Thanks Mo - I had seen them before but didn't know what they were called. My problem on the '58 Impala on the new version is having both those and lake pipes at the same time which looks a trifle overdone to me. My actual preference on that car would to probably go without either.

  22. Beatnik bubbletop was built by the late Gary "Chopit" Fioto.
That's him in it in the second photo, looks like the awards presentation at Santa Maria.

He also built that gold '53 Chevy.

  23. I looked but haven't found anything yet. @stanlow69 do you have any?
For what's it's worth, I believe those are 1962 Mercury tail lights.
