*** REPOST TO SEE IF PHOTO BUCKET WORKS ***

so been getting a little bit done on the coupe recently, mostly just welding the frame and sorting out the subframe. still need to get some pics of the front end so i can get some advice on the tie rod hitting. not sure if i like the look with the mccullough blower on it though.. what do yas think?

I've got the subframe all welded up and spotted together, its stiffened right up and I'm really happy with how it came out, i had the rails folded up in 2 pieces and then i spotted it all together with my tig, it has a spot weld setting so it only strikes the arc for a set amount of time, works well. i also machined a dimple die so that i could countersink the high tensile bolts into it... heres a test piece i made up to see how it goes and so i can show the inspectors when they come to check it out

heres a few pics of the subframe in the body, still needs a bit of tidy up work and trimming though

another thing i did was modify a set of ladder bars to clear the floor, first i cut out the centre brace, made a jig and then i could heat and bend both top tubes to the same angles. i made a new centre brace and tie welded it back in...

and a cheeky weld photo, look alright i guess

finally a few pics of the chassis, i haven't taken many cause its not finished yet

IMO... from here I really like the look of the channeled A body with [3] 2's on any engine... even if you only run the center one... its the look.

Either way can’t wait to see more! The proportions look spot on

one thing i noticed is a lot of people tend to lengthen the wheelbase to fit the v8's in, or even lengthen them to a 32 wheelbase... i decided to keep mine as close to stock as possible, i think they look more well proportioned at the stock length

but this is my first build so I'm kinda just winging it haha

Your 'stance' is spot-on ... and I agree with you on the wheelbase.
What is the height of your front and rear tires?

I love your Coupe as I see it now.

Absolutely! So many builds would be eon’s cooler if they had left the wheelbase where it started

Ditto, and it seems so much easier and cheaper to reverse the firewall instead of stretching the wheelbase...

So I'm running 16-6.00 firestones on front and I think they're 16-7.00 firestones on the rear, maybe 7.50 haha I'll check in the morning!

That's a task I haven't tackled yet haha its not going to be easy, and with the y block having the dizzy at the rear will make it even more difficult. I haven't welded in the engine and hearing mounts yet as I'm considering swapping out to a manual trans and also want to get the grill in place and eyeball if I can squeeze the engine forward anymore

So here's the problem I have with the tie rod, I've used socal deep drop steering arms and using a 4" drop axle, using stock split bones the tierod hits on the under side of the bones and I still have maybe a quarter inch still to go into the steering arms. IMG_2672.JPG IMG_2673.JPG IMG_2674.JPG IMG_2675.JPG
I scored a set of original square back spindles I think I'm going to swap out, heat and drop them but should I also go for the later 37-41 wishbones aswell, the ones that step down after a few inches?

buddy ran the tie-rod on top... and very CAREFULLY tapered reamed the steering arm's hole from the top by hand... t handled tapered reamer...
asked a buddy, he thought they made a short tapered sleeve to slide in behind the reversed tapered hole... HIH...

holy crap! that looks like exactly what I'm chasing! would be the easiest fix! and still be high enough from the ground not to worry about!

So I've made a little progress in the middle of my busy life! Managed to get the body back on and stitched to the subframe for the final time, gotta lift it off onto some stands to weld the underside to the body! Feels good to have the bracing out for now! [IMG][IMG]

Next thing is get the engine and box bolted back together and sat back in so I can do the engine mounts!

Also need to find some shock mounts for the front and sort some for the back!

Started mocking up the 32 grill shell today, took 5" out of the sides but I think it still needs to come down atleast another inch.

It looked great without the hood on but with it, the body line on the good side runs uphill compared to the body line on the car!
