I have a 1936 ford pickup with a SBC and auto trans, the front axle is an early Super bell 4 inch drop and I believe a super glide reversed eye spring. The ride height measured at the lower part of the grill is 4.25 off the ground. I am looking to swap a 354 Hemi into it and I am concerned that the low ride height now will be too low for practical driving. I was considering swapping axles out to get extra ride height and lower the risk of destroying the grill. If I stand on the bumper my weight (250 lbs) lowers the truck by about a 1/2 inch so I feel the spring is good. I was looking into the Super Bell 32 Ford heavy duty reproduction axle as one choice and the other is a stock 35 ford axle. I read some reports that the new axles are not as strong as Henry steel. Is anybody using this axle now?
The shackle angle is correct and the spring is really pretty stiff was also thinking of changing the main leaf eye back to the normal position which may give me a 1/2 inch.
First off, They make a specific "hemi" spring. Next what's the front suspension configuration and crossmember ? Channeled truck ?
Not channeled ,stock crossmember with split wish bones. Just checked 31 Vicky with a hemi build great work wish mine was even close to that.
Spring in front ? Pics would probably help. The stock crossmember has a big dip that boosts the ride height up pretty good. Thanks for the kind words on my build
