    Yeah, looks like Discount tire direct only has 8 different 275/60/ 15's, but about 30 different 225/ 70/ 15's. Looks like 265's are a thing of past.

    A hot rod just doesn't look right without Bigs and littles............my preferences are probably influenced from my drag racing days! I even lean toward them on a custom, just not to the same extreme.

    Verde742 : The ones I am running (60's vintage) I found in paper wrapping at a VW show flea market. They musta been stored really well like my rears were. I would think Coker would supply current versions for the bug restoration guys.

    I don't think a traditional Hot Rod looks "right" without big n littles,except some prewar and very early post war roadsters.Here's one i recently did and i think the Rubber Rake is a big part of the look.

  11. Part of being a 60’s hot rod is having big and little’s, 5.60 or 5.90 x 15 in the front and 7.60 or 8,20 x 15 in the rear. This is for 20’s to mid 30’s cars. Fat fendered cars looked fine with up to 6.40 x 15 in the front due to their heavier weight. Customs were more likely to run 6.70 x 15s all around, maybe a bit larger if it was not a Chevy or Ford, but a heavier car.

  14. The Ranch Wagon has the same size wheels front & rear - 6" x 15" but the tires are 205/70R 15"and 215/70R 15" respectively.HRP

    Question... what do you guys do for a spare tire when you go two sizes?

  17. I have traveled thousands of miles around the country and never carried a spare tire and never had a flat until this year,I ran over something and the tire went down fast.

    Fortunately, we were able to plug the tire on the car and everything was fine.

    I also carry a AAA card for emergency roadside service. HRP

  19. {My wife asked me} why do you put big tires on the back and little ones on the front. I said to get better gas mileage. Because I 'm running down hill most of the time.:rolleyes: 1537.jpg

    I had a complete sidewall blowout on the 56 front passenger side once on my way to Kansas City from St. Louis. I luckily had a spare that was about the same size and continued the trip. After that I incident I replaced all 4 with same size all around...

    Applying irremediable analyticness to why some hot rods just have that look, three elements of the classic hot rod stance:
    1. Rear tyres are bigger than fronts but fronts and rears have roughly the same proportion of width to height;
    2. The car is generally parallel to a line tangent to the tops of the front and rear tyres; and
    3. Front ground clearance is visually about the same as the front tyres' sidewall height.

    All that applies to customs, too, except for the difference in front and rear tyre size.

    Having said, "fats & skinnies" on specials are a whole other look:

    Thanks guys. One more week of cruising & it's coming apart for some freshening. I picked up a complete tri-power and a few other goodies a couple weeks ago. Will be a busy winter!
