i just purchased a fibreglass sports car on Vancouver Island, i am looking for more history about it... a good friend remembers it on the streets of Victoria. a newspaper article in the Times Colonist has a photo of it painted yellow and says it ran 12 second 1/4 mile times so i am assuming it ran at Cobble Hill and/or Van Isle Drag strip. Any information would be a great help.
Do you mean Forgotten Fiberglass (ForgottenFiberglass.com or www.Facebook.com/ForgottenFiberglass/) a.k.a. g. hacker here on the hamb (but he hasn't been online this year)?
drum brakes, probably MGA front end, body will come off quite easily, then we will know a lot more. too busy with work to get to it for a while, stay tuned
NOT 8" Ford rearend; 55-64 Chevrolet style, but the housing looks to be 55-56. What's the transmission? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Good chance that the engine, trans and rear came out of the same donor rig.. I'd say the great thing about that one is that it isn't going to piss someone off if you make changes and improvements along the way on the rebuild. I'd keep the roll bar though as that gives the authentic built back when look to it. I'd agree that some better photos posted on forgotten Fiberglass would go a long way towards it's ID.
well...it turns out after some deep searching that the car was custom built by Bob Palmer in the Victoria area on Vancouver island. originally had a 327/275hp with powerglide and 4:56 gears, now has a 350 and th400. the colour was 67 Crvette Daytona yellow. The car was raced at the famous San Cobble drag strip near Victoria and produced 12 second times.
Not to burst your bubble but 1967 was Sunflower Yellow. Daytona Yellow came in 1969. A very much brighter yellow same as the Z/28 which I think cost more as a special order color. Still a very cool find.
Just located a pair of 15x10 magesium d spokes for the rear and going to widen my 15x6 alumn d spokes to 15x7.5 for the front, going to use my 1963 327( rollerized , 4 bolt mained) motor.
Just talked to the guy that built the car in 1967, totally hand formed the body from chicken wire and concrete morter , then laid fiberglass over that! No mould at all... total one off body
