Mikey, that's they way I remember it as well. Same height stacks (if correct tuned length) will produce max TQ and HP at peak, but in a tight powerband. Staggered stack height broadens the powerband at the expense of a few peak TQ and HP numbers, same as unequal length primary tubes on headers.

2-speed and 3-speed automatics of that era needed a broader powerband as opposed to a well shifted 4-speed manual transmission.

    Best regards,

    Harry

:) Howdy from Texas, Nick! And thanks for the great job you did on my intake! When I get back on it, I will take some pics. Just now, I am working on adapting larger '59 - '64 Chevy drum brakes to my '57.

Then I will scrounge up the rebuild kits, choke tubes, emulsion tubes and jetting to rebuild and reconfigure the Maserati carbs to suit my 292 engine. Once they are mounted on the intake, I can begin working out the throttle linkage, fuel log and other small bits.

    Best regards,

    Harry

    June 2017 Price Transfer Automobilia
    Hello,

We lusted for a Hilborn Injection System for our original 283 SBC motor for our first time build of the 40 Willys Coupe. That system was just beyond our monetary reach and our expertise. We settled for the 6 Strombergs for the 283. When we went to the big 671 on the 292 SBC motor, again, we wanted a 2 port Hilborn Injector on top in the place of our 6 Strombergs. But, again, the money was spent getting the larger motor together, plus the new 671 set up and nothing was left over for the 2 port Hilborn Injectors. So, the old reliable Strombergs got back in line for the tune up, this time with a new Weiand flat manifold on the 671.

Recently I saw a very well built 36 Willys Sedan Delivery with Hilborn Injectors at the Price Transfer Automobilia Museum. Wandering around this museum makes anyone want to live right in this big, old building. I am sure this 33 Willys Sedan Delivery gets driven a lot. It is the perfect street sedan delivery with mild custom touches and a quality finish. Stock appearing on the outside, but the finish and motor say otherwise. Those Hilborns seem like they would be hard to manage for the street, but it can be done.

(This is Larry Cerny’s 1934 Ford, 3 window coupe. It had an SBC with an outstanding looking Hilborn Injector system. The exhaust pipes made a loud, but cool sound. It looked like a race car for pure street use with the M&H rear tires. For him, tuning the Hilborns made the coupe run well for daily driving. )

If this 36 Willys Sedan Delivery was available back in 1961, it would have made the perfect "surf wagon" and race car at the same time. YES...

(If I can recall correctly, Hilborn Injector Co. used to have a big shop on Crown Valley and Cabot in Laguna Niguel for many years... in the OC, just off the I-5 exit ramp. Now, there is a gigantic apartment complex on that same corner) They moved to Aliso Viejo just a few miles away from the old location.

  18. First generation Enderle injector scoops. These are rare as they were soon changed to the familiar squared scoop style, and were only made for a short while.
