In 1958 my dad, brother ,and I drove by that building in a '53 Ford pickup on a trip from Happy, Texas to Crystal Lake, Illinois to pick up a grain dryer for the grain elevator where my dad worked. We went to Meramec Caverns. Thanks for posting that.

Hasn't been a mystery for years........
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/

As far as guts and explanation of censorship, they are editorial decisions.....
Does it have to do with/ include Traditional Hot Rods and Customs and what the HAMB is all about ?

If the post subject doesn't include Traditional Hot Rods and or Customs - 99% + chance will be deleted.
    (Including advertising art.)

If your response if - we missed a few - there's a chance we did.
Eventually we'll catch it or is reported to a Moderator.

Nothing is personal in deleting anything - it's editorial decisions.

Yeah fellas, I'm pretty much done moderating these threads. Instead, I'm gonna get rid of them. Please be respectful and stay on topic or just don't post.

    Thanks,

Interesting piece of history. To say that it was a bad day for Rex Mays is an extreme understatement.

  17. That's some pretty ordinary graphic design. Old ads is about the best I could describe them as.

Has anyone read them in the past?

  23. I wouldn't have spent the money on them. Those & others were in the high school library when I attended.

In grade school, I can remember a couple of books (novels) about racing pre-war. One comes to mind about a guy that had built a rig with a two-speed rear & zephyr gears.

Frankly, most were not "best seller quality" as far as writing style.

  27. Personally, I have better things to do than be deliberately disrespectful. I work hard to understand and "play by the rules". The folks who post to the picture threads are great peeps in my book, and I enjoy their resourcefulness. But I continue to be bewildered by this site's lack of consistency - or maybe it depends on who the member is.

The post of mine that was just deleted, was of the Minneapolis Moline UDLX. It has everything "street rod" going for it; small tires in front - big in back, road worthy, full fendered, full dash & speedo, license plate bracket, even a v-bumper reminiscent of a certain Ford.

I also made sure the images and the brochure were "period correct". That is, the images were pre-65.

The brochure certainly had everything car worthy going for it too: A pretty gal (coveralls, top hat & cane), and great interior images featuring the Ross steering wheel with horn & speedo.

In fact, that particular model was considered so "rod-worthy", it was featured not just on Hemmings, but Jalopnik - and wait for it - there was a thread for it right here on the HAMB back in 2006.

In short, having looked in on the HAMB off & on since its inception, I certainly thought it was as on-topic as could be.

Hope you guys work it out - racing season is full-bore & look forward to fall & winter picture threads.
