First time attending and what a day it was, looking forward to next year already which will be done differently as far as taking pics goes, want to watch racing next time and not wander the grounds so much next time. Here are a few pics and link to the photo album. https://public.fotki.com/62704/drag-racing-at-mid-/2017-meltdown-drags/
The meltdown was a real treat. From the great cars in attendance,to the expanded swap, plus the weather.Seems like their are a few cars entered(10-20%) that struggle to get down the track. It would be nice if everyone could get their rods figured out before they get there.I know everyone is thrashing to make it happen, and some don't get mutch track time before hand.It just would enhance our viewing pleasure a little more.
heh...it would also enhance the pleasure of those waiting in staging lanes But yeah, that's not how drag racing works, so I'm fine with it.
I attended for the first time also. I am retired -so I remember when theses cars were fresh builds. Drag racing these cars takes a lot of patience.Great facility and camping . I saw a lot of old friends. A schedule of events would be nice- can't walk as good as I use to. Seeing Kevin Baas pop the moon shot wheelie on the Harley was worth the trip ( taught shop with him for 20 years)
My thoughts exactly. I said basically the same thing to my wife as we sat through all the down time on Friday. Yeah, stuff happens, but once your entry is accepted it's time to get to work, not the weekend before the event. Still, there were good, and exciting, passes made on Friday. If I have a gripe at all, it's not being able to see the tower side clocks from the bleachers because of the motor homes parked along the fence. It is such a simple fix, but maybe no one complains and the Meltdown crew doesn't know the problem exists. My wife is not a major race fan but if we spend the time, the miles and the gas she wants to get the full experience, including seeing what's going on. I tend to agree.
my wife & several others were in that area & it was a problem ! them motorhomes were just too tall-unless you were in the upper bleachers ! i remember yrs ago there -if the view was blocked like that- people threw any & everything on the vehicle roofs -from hot dogs to baby diapers -remember that if you block the view & are parked there ! i didnt see anything thrown this year -just remembered i would like park there !! -it was a great event & there was really no major problems i seen at the event !!
