Hot Rods Well this ramp truck should help motivate me to go to the track!

Funny you should say that! I was researching a BBC swap last night.

Back in the era from which that ramp truck would have been built/used and on up into the late 70s there were lots of those in use here in the Southeast by the guys who owned and raced on all the tracks scattered all over the region.
One of my friends was operating 2 of the ramp trucks for race cars for himself and another for his son. The often traveled several hundred miles to a race and on the interstates 75-85mph was the cruising speed if traffic permitted.
One truck had a sbc 350 and struggled at times to maintain these speeds. The other truck had a BBC 454, one of the small port, lower compression, and milder cam truck engines, and it was much better at maintaining these speeds and got better gas mileage while doing the same speed with similar loads, so I'd say BBC, truck type, for sure.

  5. It depends on how it is geared and how fast you want to roll with it. I recall them in the pits at Islip, some had to run the truck up on ramps to help unload a low race car.

Supposedly Moomjean built the ramptruck in late 1968 and used it first in January 1969, drove it until 1975.
It used to be a truck for a pipe company and did not have a bed when he got it.

    First it ran a 283 cu out of a -59 Impala, but in 1975 he put a -71 C10 350 cui in it. 11.jpg 16.jpg 1965.jpg Dennis Moomjean 3.jpg

I want to find the original split wheels and larger tires for this truck. I think it has 1948 chevy tail lights. IMG_0492.jpg

Love the truck, awesome score. If that truck was originally used to haul the Moomjean roadster, no way would I remove the lettering on the door. That's history baby.

Yeah, that would be cool to roll down the road....It's worked for a lot of years just the way it is. Might not want to get in too big of a hurry to yank the small block unless its really hurting. If it is hurt it might be cheaper to put a 383 in it, than a BBC.

  15. That is a C40 with a bigger rear. May not be able to put freeway gears in it, easily.

Someone before me swapped out the rear end for a newer one with good gears. I'm also NOT going to do anything to the history of the MoomJean door. I am considering disc brakes, power steering and a hydroboost brake system that powers a hydraulic winch.

I drove out to woodland hills to pick it up. I figured I would drive out, load up and go home.

After overheating a few times and mushy brakes I finally arrived home. I opened the master and there was about a teaspoon of brake fluid. Brakes are bleed, new radiator and a pertronix installed in the distributer, she is one happy "Toe" Truck! I really should not have driven down Benedict canyon before inspecting the brakes.

I tore into my donor truck and now have a front and rear suspension along with a 454 and TH400.
I bought the truck delivered to my door for $1000, sold the aluminum box for $200 and the rest of the truck for $80.00, not bad.
