Hot Rods F1 steering box Model A frame

    For you guys that have done this buy cutting the flange of the F1 box off and welding on a model a flange, did you machine the end of the Model a flange for a seal or not. Looks to me like you would have to, but it seems that a lot of people either don't do this or don't describe it when discussing and showing photos of this modification.

    Usually you retain the seal on the end of the F1 box and leave enough metal to weld on your new flange. Make sure you pre-heat both parts before welding.

    There are a couple of good threads on it one with almost a step by step photo blog. On that one they machined the pieces to fit.

    I saw the thread where they machined the pieces. What I'm really asking is can you get by without putting that seal in the model a part that you cut off to weld onto the F1 box.
    I'm trying to visualize what hellshotrods is suggesting......but I can't.
