The best airport is O'Hare in Chicago. It is about 80 miles from there to Byron. Hotels are still availBle in either Rockford or Rochelle.

Okiedoker I'm still on the fence about going to the Melt Downs. We really enjoy the Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Green. How does it compare? Thanks, Mike

Mike - it depends what you like. If you like Pintos and Camaros and you like old cars with modern hood scoops, wheels, etc., then I would stick with the Hot Rod Reunion.

If you like true vintage racing, seeing a huge variety of stuff (FED's, altered, Gassers, AFX, super stocks, bikes, trucks, etc.), if you like non-stop racing, if you like a low key atmosphere, if you like it when people leave their attitudes at home, if you like America...then the Meltdown is for you.

I like the Hot Rod Reunion but I am sure I will like the Meltdown also.
I have a question I am planning on bringing a truckload of 50s thru early 70s car magazines to the swap meet to sell.

I am bringing my son with me is there a set of bleachers close to the swap meet area so he can sit in them and watch racing and I will be able to keep an eye on him?

One more question will we be able to set up our camping tent where our swap meet stuff is?

Eh I don't know man. 500 plus race cars and like minded people? And the noise and the smell of race fuel for hours and hours? I'm a really weird dude and get off on that kinda shit. It's not for everyone.

You could have either left or right lane. That's the two best seats in the house.

Enloe - by no means am I knocking the HRR. We are different events that serve different purposes in the world.

Ok, so when it comes to the swap meet. There is a set of bleachers about 100 feet or so from the swap meet. It does require going through a section of the pits. There is also a 500 foot long hill next to the bleachers that makes for an awesome spot to watch racing and would make him highly visible to you. Setting up a tent in your swap space should not be an issue (a camper might be), but a tent should be fine.

We are glad you are going to make it this year. We think that you will enjoy the event. The swap meet area is right between part of the pits and the car show, and gets a lot of activity. Hopefully you do well.
