My soap box derby car was painted like Parnelli Jones' 98. (As close as we could get when I was twelve, at least).
Just about all of the pre rear engined cars. I especially like the large scallops with the dark shadow lines, like this one. They were hot rods and looked like them! Great idea for a thread! Conversely, I especially don't like those cars with the flames painted by the guys who didn't know how to paint flames, yet LOL. You know, those goofy old Bart Simpson style flames that were on cars for years before the light bulbs went on completely.
I don't think there was a bad looking car made back in that era of Indy! Here are three I like. and this is too cool not to share:
Smokey Yunick's Indy Roadster 1960(?) The Agajanian Special Driven by Troy Ruttman to Victory Lane 1952 Not the flashest paint but I have always liked 1952 winner Lee Wallard's car. I live about 45 minutes south of Lee Wallard's home town of Alamont N.Y.
I don't have enough knowledge to pick three faves. I was just giddy about all of them. I do remember going to the IMCA dirt track races when they were still running offy's, nothing sounded as cool as these beasts, The metal grandstands at the state fair where I would see them just resonated that throaty tone so well. I feel so fortunate to have had that experience.
My favorite is the Boyle Special Maserati... Sort of cheating, I know... From this era, I like the DA Lubricants first Curtis, but I like it with the fresh Gold Halibrands best... The tarnished ones are cool too, but And later I like this.... Because it's like a rolling FU...
