This last weekend Dode Martin revealed the recreated C G/D Dragliner. The original was build by him and Jim Nelson in 57. I sure would have liked to be there but I had to settle for pictures.
WOW! Martin and Nelson built some of the finest drag cars ever, and it's great to see the Dragliner added to the stable of restored/recreated Dragmaster cars. I understand that both Jim and Dode are in their 80's, but still building stuff...Thanks for posting.
Yeah, Dode's still going strong but from what I hear Jim isn't doing so hot. Keep him in your prayers.
Cool post, missed this one. True, Jim is feeling only so so these days. This is Jim a couple of years ago, that is me with him in his kitchen. Some other cool pics of Jim from back in the day. Dode I know speaks with a few people here, he is still a firecracker! What great guys they both are.
Wow. Too cool. Thanks for sharing! I was just reading about the 'original' last night in Hot Rod-1949-1959 and thinking what a beautiful car it was... it's quite something to see it 'in color' as it may be. JK
Man that is truely beautiful! I have always dug that late fifties kinda dragster look even more so than the mid sixties fueler kinda stuff.... But then again, I'm known to be a bit weird!!!
Hi Rich; I know much of the story. I purchased the Dragliner from Jim and Dode in the late 50's. We ran it for a few years in "C" Gas Dragster. One trip to Indianapolis. Ran it almost every weekend for about 3 years. Sold it to a Car Club in LA. I Only saw it once or twice after that. I then bought a "B" Gas Rail from Jim and Dode and of course Tommy Nelson. Ran the same gas injected 283 for years. Ran all Racer Brown stuff. Had to buy gas at the Tydol Gas station. Had a little higher octane rating. That's what Dode and jim did so I followed closely on their advise. Great bunch of guys! Great memories towing all kinds of cars all over the country. Drove to many strips around the country in the old GREEN Chrysler wagon. Saw a lot! From Dode driving The TWO THING on an short strip in the middle of a cornfield in ?? Indians I think..to The DART being retired. We woul go 100 miles out of the way Just to play a certain Pinball machine in Texas. Wrecked a few motels on the way. lots of stories...........They are one of The Greatest bunch of guys you would ever want to meet! There is a lot more! Maybe later.
Thanks for those great pictures. I purchased the original Dragliner from Jim and Dode years ago. I ran it for a few years then sold it to a car club in LA. I had the good fortune to travel with Jim, Dode and Tommy to great dragstrips all over the country. From Indianapolis to some remote Strip in a Cornfield where Dode ran it (THE TWO-THING) up and down a few times. Too short to get on it hard! Great stories, Great memories. Dick Nicolosi I guess I will have to go to Carlsbad and Fallbrook to visit!
Hey, don,t stop writing to the hamb, we want to hear from the oldtimers that actually raced and such! My son knows Dode, and he is still building engines etc. I hafta get on him to go over there again.
Welcome to the hamb Dick, how about another story or two? any pics from back then? we'd love to see them. Thanks, oj
