I also try and document any 57 pontiac safari's when they pop up. my goal is to see how many is out and about and or left. and if you can help please do I have only found about 30 of them.
You are exactly right. I remember it being all-white at the time, but forgot it was a hardtop. I believe it runs a 428 from a Grand Prix. Also a nice car!
The Safari would be a great tow vehicle for my touring! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You guys are killing me............ I've always liked '57 Pontiacs but when I found them I didn't have money and when I had money they didn't cross my path. I know where I got the bug from; I had a crush on an older chick in High School and a guy who lived on her street had a slightly hot rodded '57 with 3x2s that showed up at Lions Drag Strip occasionally. It was a great looking 2 dr hardtop and fast. He was a good guy who didn't mind talking to a youngster - she was just plain out of my league.
There is an estate auction in a couple weeks here, one item is a rare 57 Pontiac convertible factory fuel injection car...
ALL these 57 Pontiacs are very nice; especially the first two! I tend to favor post cars, but the black 57 hardtop would probably be my final pick. It would be a hard decision to make. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
I'm in the process of building a Star Chief ragtop. Plans include a 348 Chevy bored-n-stroked to 434 cubic inches and a few more modifications.
[AT I've owned 4 in my lifetime. Two 2 door sedans [blue one was 389/4 speed and gray primer was 400/4 speed] and a super chief hardtop and a chieftain hardtop...both 2 doors. I don't have one now but I do have a 57 Pontiac motor in my 34 ford coupe...with a 4 speed!
i know this has probably been discussed, but where there differences beyond minor sheet metal and trim between these and the 57 chevys, and for that matter the olds and buicks? (i understand that the engines were different, with each gm division having generally using their own mills well until the 80's) And if so, could you please outline them?
HA! They're two completely different cars with the only parts interchanging...the glass and doors and decklid. Wheel bases different, frames different, suspension different...
And, only the Chieftain and Super Chief decklids are the same as 55-56 Chevy. The Star Chief decklids were longer. A lot of the inner structure metal is same as Chevy as is the rocker panels which are same as 55 Chev. Floorpans, not even close.
I took this picture of my mom's 1957 Pontiac 2dr ht, in 1966. It was the 1st car she let me drive on the back road on my 14th birthday. In 1967 my father sold the '57 for 50.00 (fifty). It was still running good!
Not the same....Go find one from a Pathfinder. For some reason, Canadian Pontiac stuff is cheaper than Chevy
Not mine but one of my favorite cars. Was trying to get a hold of a guy that had one posted on craigslist but never emailed or called me back.
