Motion Pictures Nasty Habit Willys part 13....A few videos.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, May 16, 2016.

  1. I don't have a GoPro camera but my I phone takes videos so I made a bracket that mounts it to my roll bar and took a few videos. Sometimes it records sound and sometimes it doesn't. Picture is OK but goes kinda warbley when it gets loud in there. Anyway I took the car out 2 Saturdays in a row, first to the 50th San Diego Antique drags at Barona (1/8 mile) where I made 10 runs in one day. Had a few issues with clutch adjustment so some runs I couldn't hit second gear but we got that figured out. The following Saturday was the Antique Nationals at Fontana (1/4 mile). There was a chance of rain so the car count was down and I got to make another 10 runs. So 20 runs in 2 weeks and didn't blow anything up. I don't ever have the quickest car at the track but it is a hell of a lot of fun for a 12 second street car, Best run was a 12.50 at 116mph.

Here is an early run from Fontana, messed up and rolled out of the lights but it was just a test and tune run.

  7. I wanted a street driving video so I drove it to work on Tuesday after Fontana but I messed up with the camera and somehow didn't turn it on and the the transmission started grinding into second gear so now it needs syncros. Here is a shot from Fontana.

I cleaned up my magnesium American 5 spokes (had them shot peened) and put them on the back. I love my 15x 10 Halibrands but they look too big on the car to me.

New to this site. Kiwi kev and many others have been a big help. I'm a retired circle track fabricator by trade. My dad needed help with his cars, so I learned the trade. I myself, like the drag cars. Since I was 10, I always wanted a steel 41 willys with a hemi. When I was about 25, I was able to buy a steel 41. Basically body only and frame. Now it's 20 years later, and a long story, I'm gathering parts for my willys gasser. I wasn't around for the gasser years, born in 71, so I'm not as hip as many on how it was done back then. Parts seem to be really expensive for those of us who don't have any gasser contacts. So any help would be great. I did find a 57 imperial in Texas from a member on this site. Has 392 hemi in it. Got it started last weekend. Need to sell rest of car. Thanks to kiwi kev and many others on this site. Cars look great. Look forward to many more great articles. Jim.

There is nothing like a Willys Gasser on the dragstrip pulling the wheels. Fantastic, this is what made them legendary.

I LOVE how the camera gets all "scared" when the car gets all "angry". Classic.

That's ok little camera, you'll be all right.

    Hey Kev,
Impressive photos of your Willys. The shot out of the interior over the hood just gave me that feeling from 1960 in our 40 Willys, right down to the red primer paint. The ride along video was awesome. As a former owner of a 12 sec 40 Willys, that was so cool to "feel" that video scene again.

It sounds like you had a lot of fun making all of those runs. Very nice... congrats...

Sometimes "cool" is an overused word but those runs really fit the definition of cool.

  28. I am putting the car up for sale so I am not going to run it at the Antique Nat's this year. I have been working on it finishing up a few things. Just put some door panels on it last weekend.
