Technical How much should I ask for a long bell housing 331 Hemi block and crank?

The block is virgin bore. Crank is virgin grind.
    Lifter valley covers included.
Have been asking 400.00 which I think is reasonable. But the best offer has been an 8-71 blower rebuildable core in trade.
How much do you all think this is worth?

Extended bell blocks are a super tough sell without heads. I've seen complete buildable core engines for $500 If I had what you've got there and someone offered me $200 for it I'd take it in a heartbeat.

I must say the virgin crank looks a little rusty. I don't think I would run it as is. The bores look better, but not "Virgin".

Remember it is going to cost a sizeable chunk of change to put that back together, even you already have a set of heads sitting around. $100 seems about right. $400 is quite a bit too high.

No, just the block crank and lifter valley cover. That invoice is 56 years old. The rest has been lost in time. I picked this up last year. Passing it on down the road.

I have seen the long bellhousing 331 cranks listed for $500.00 to $600.00 on eBay. I wonder if anyone is getting anywhere close to what they ask.
Well, I'll take it to the Monroe swap meet with a truck load of other stuff in a few weeks. Will try unloading it for $250.00 there.
    Thanks for the input everyone!

  10. If I had it, I'd build it.

  11. Yea! Would be cool to build it since you have it. Sell? It is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

You can ask anything you want. Getting it is another matter.

$400 seems like a good deal to me, if the crank and bores cleaned up within specs. with a little polish/hone. Better get out the micrometers and telescopic gauges.

This is assuming one ended up with a nice piston to cylinder fit so had something almost as good as a rebore.
