Maybe I am just getting old and soft! Anyone else out there building a mid 60's Lux cruiser? I am in process of a 65 Imperial Crown 4dr that I want to use to visit the shows with. Let me see some of ya'lls takes on the big luxury cars.
Check the Los Boulevardos thread-I'm the only member in Austin as of now. I have the '62 Impala-Frankenstein green with a kandy laced teal/purple roof, Merc grille,'61 Imp taillights @ The Roundup
I own a 1969 Lincoln with a 460 cid engine, rides like a dream. I will be patching up a little rust on the passenger side this coming week so my son can drive it to prom.
Can't get more "Mid-60" with a '65 car... Here's my '65 Chrysler300 convertible; It's got a 383ci, Offenhauser 'DualPort' intake. Hope to find a 413cu for it pretty soon so the engine-size matches the VIN-tag codes again... I've totally rebuild the car. Pics can be seen on the BigBlockMopar.nl-site in my signature. Currently I'm rebuilding and 'HotRoddin' my '64 Chrysler NewYorker Salon. I has a solidcammed 440 engine, Offenhauser dualquad-intake, dual Cartercarbs, Erson mechanical camshaft, 1.6 rockers, 3800 stall convertor, 3.9 gears in the rear... so much for the 'lux-cruiser'-factor...
Nah, it ain't age man, it's kool as hell. Cheap too. Most of em already have big ass motors in em. Ever seen James Hetfield's (Metallica) Lincoln? Like a 62-3 I think? Awesome stuff. When you think about how much style these old cruisers already have it's a no-brainer. Lots of 61-2 caddys out there done up with kool paint and wheels, Craig Fraser's mid 60's Buick, you get the idea. I think it's right on.
I am resisting the urge to build a protouring/G machine, although some of those upgrades would be a good thing as long as I don't go with the "look". Don't want 19/20's, do want traditional era wheels, hell the stock hubcaps are cool, designed with cooling vents for the huge drum brakes.
I like 63/64 Cadillacs. They are the last year with any fins, they are pretty stylish, and they can be had for relatively little money. I had a 64 before I bought this money pit of a house and am currently looking for another 63/64. The only downfall I came accross is they have a lot of options and doo dahs. After 40+ years they start to kind of wear out (however in mine everything worked but the Comfort Control/AC/Heat unit). Here is a link to the pics of my old Cadillac http://groups.msn.com/196364CadillacCommunity/adbiowa1964sedandeville.msnw
I love those old big iron cars my last one was a 66 lincoln convert with suicide doors n folding top=worked on it about a month just getting electrics to work all stock it ran n cruised like a dream=only problem i had was old lady didnt like it=finally sold it but I miss it
I've got a '64 Olds 98 that's about 50 feet long. Not really working on it currently, would like to put bags in it and swap some Supremes onto it but that's about all and I don't know if I'll even do that. (I'm lazy) Here's a bad picture of it when I first got it.
Hey Rader Rods, I am in the process of parting out one of those. Drove the piss out of it for 3 years, and surprised a few Impala SS's with it. It had the typical hardtop car/floorboard,cowl panel, backlight and driprail rustout problems.
Nice boat GoozGaz... Like the stance...! I forgot to mention my other 'pride', my '62 Chrysler NewYorker Wagon... Here I'm kicking some Chevy-butt with it; Has one of the coolest dashes I've ever seen...
hey guys new to the hamb i have a 1966 chrysler new yorker i just bought this week 1 owner 440 4 door 41000 orig miles in great shape take a look
I don't talk much about my '66 buick electra's, convertible and a hardtop because don't meat the '64 cutoff but hell ya I like land yahtz!!
I saw this one a few weeks ago at he 411 Drag Strip near Knoxville. Haven't been able to get it out of my head either! I would really love to get into one.
Rader, you should check out the "Tuner Cars" thread I started last week. Sounds like you're on the same page as a lot of HAMBsters. -Dave
Big ole lux cruisers are where it's at...at 6'-6" and with a 5 year old I can't fit in or afford a rod. I like big boat mobiles anyway...
There's nuttin' like a big ass land yacht! My 98's...again! lol This is where I think I'm goin' with the hardtop... Olson
Bought the four door last year, all original survivor and still has that new car smell. The other one i saw at Viva this year, intersting idea and it wasn't that badly executed, was a two door hardtop but somewhere along the line decided to live the free lifestyle.
Did a little Photoshoppin' the other day, trying out some different rims on my ride; (Click for a larger picture) And to add another ride to the topic, here's my 'other' '65 Chrysler 300; Only this one is in a little more 'used' shape... (Click for a larger picture)
