My 48 just had a heater under the dash with water hoses from the engine in through the firewall. It's in pretty rough shape so I was looking for options. Thanks for the info.

Also turned the heater core upside down, because the hose connectors were located to close to the s.b.c. distributor
    for connection. ;)
They end up next to the hood hinge ( pictured )

The heater hose pictured running from the intake now is for header crankcase evac. system.

The heater bolts to the firewall with the heater core sandwiched between firewall and heater sheet metal.

You can see part of the heater box under the dash in this p 20170414_134913 (2).jpg ic.

  9. I've spotted the green version in various mags over the years and liked it, but the scalloped version is really cool!

Your interior Looks boss, from the above pics! What ya' got on that? You are running a 57 283 aren't you. I have one in my shop and a dead 46 ford. How did the 283 turn out, and what about the internals? hotrodyankee is completing about the same build. I am enthralled with what you two are doing. Keeping it sweet and simple and in true traditional rodding fashion, while maintaining the character and form of a classic Ford! Keep it up fellows.

  12. Thanks! My interior just got done a couple weeks ago. but I still have a flathead in it. I am doing a 283 but probably not until this fall. Should be a pretty basic installation.

  14. Hi Guys
I was told a few days ago that 46/48 Ford Convertibles use steel donuts instead of rubber when bolting the body to the Chassis, is this correct ?
Sure would like to know before I bolt the body on !!!

I have not seen steel donuts. Mine uses rubber, but there is an extra mount on each side of the firewall on converts (two per side). Seems fine with the new rubbers.

    Hello Chris,
This is an interesting thread that hit home back in 1962-63 days. In Long Beach, our HS graduating class had a bunch of cool cars. One that I have not mentioned is a 48 purple Ford coupe. The look of your coupe when the sun hits it, highlights the white tuck and roll upholstery.

This is one view that I always admired in my friend's 48, since the slant of the coupe always showed people, the white interior patterns. His purple paint made the bright white upholstery really stand out. It had chrome rims, and a new white upholstery when I last saw it many years ago.

I have lost track of the friend/car and wonder if it survived all of these years. If any of you guys have old photos from 1961-64 of 46-48 purple coupes out of Long Beach, CA, please add information of the build/owners. One of those might be my old friend from back in those cruising days.

The odd thing I remember is that most of my friends owned Chevy cars, from 53 to 62. (+ two Pontiacs) But, this one guy was doing his own thing in driving around in that cool 48 Ford purple coupe. That white tuck and roll also made the whole interior look super clean and nice, just like yours...

  17. Hey thanks, that is pretty much what I was going for...the 58-62 era look. So many guys now a days think these cars are only cool as customs (and they are), but looking in old magazines, they were chalked full of 41-48 Fords done non-chopped hot rod style. I just wanted a little slice of that pie

I like your 46 Mercury, looking good. Frank

  20. Thanks HotRod1948 , well if yours uses rubber and it works then that is fine with me, yes mine has the extra mount on the firewall, I was told that the firewall mount uses the double steel "insulator" seems a bit strange.

  23. Car looks great that way too Steve! With the "hot rod rake" and the exhaust "dumps" it really works!

Just finished lowering my 47. Reversed the eyes on the stock springs and made a longer shackle for the rear. Gotta make some rear shock mounts and shorten the rear panhard bar. I have the stock 16" on now but will probably go to a 15" wheel with 6.70-15" firestones, i need new tires anyway
